nearly 1000 cc 8 hp get well over 100 hp now for size engine
first look for engines with a suitable bore then ,find out the compresson height ie centre of pin to top of piston , diesels are good as there is always a thick top section
that can be machined down
gudgeon pin holes are usualy larger so you make up bushes with circlip grooves and press and peg them in place
bushes could be eccentric if needed
its very important on a sidevavle to check the top ring is not exposed , at the top of the bore on the valve area
i used to borrow old Hepolite catalogues from an engine machinist and sit for ages
looking for a suitable alternative , its a bit easier on the web now
How do you guys work out/know which replacement parts from which other marques/machines will do as substitutes?
can be a bit annoying when it goes click as you turn the engine over for the first time! , not too easy to strip down again either, I have not done but I know someone who has, and I remind him at regular intervals, usually once a year!
well I did ride it today, on one cylinder and only to see if the other cylinder would fail the same way! all packed up and waiting for the courier to collect it and take it back to the guy who bored it, 8 or 9 years ago, at least the warranty was good! he has arranged the courier as well, should get to Ogre by the weekend, blast, metal spray, re-black, back on, these cylinders have been nickel plated at some time, that plus a layer or three of black hid it well, until if fired up for the first time!

mate had acoventryeagle flyin 8 the barrels had been heavily alu metal sprayed and pulled 100m.ph on the iverness run
past boleskin house
Yes might be alloy sprayed, it is silvery, soft and quite thick, and it hides holes! why do people spray them? I thought black was better for radiating heat? is it still available? I am building up a machine that would have had nickel plated cylinders but that is hard to do on 100 year old cast iron, a mate used some sort of boil in the bag nickel system for his cylinders, Not asked him if it worked well enough.
it was done with an oxy acetylene gun that feeds wire into the flame , its a common coating for subsea stuff he reckoned it was like a heat sink , yes they were black painted over
seen a few indian cylinders plated
and some jap ones just at the bottom
Might get my Motosacoche cylinders done for the 1925 M4s, Brough style tank being made sometime this year, the M3s had plated cylinders,
like the picture but with a IoE Motosacoche 996cc V twin engine, will look like 100mph when doing 60mph...

aye i was very impressed with the ioe engine
in in tbe lee francis MAG i think
run very well and loved lots of ign advance
been fixing all the worn out bits on the husky
runs great but il have to renew the throttle spindle idle is all over the place , rather than bush the brake pedal bore , i turned up a bush and chopped the old b it off and welded the new bit on and filled the rod hole with
309 ss re drilling was a real pig , cobalt drill
on low speed soaked with moly grease
squeeling like a pig ,never wear,or rust again
disconnected the oil pipe to check delivery and managed to break a bit out the pump
think il try araldite bodge ,the pipe will hold it
and its hardly high pressure more like an occasional spurt
and the welded rod is hanging in so far
I did offer you a 10mm carbide slot mill for free but got blanked but I thought I’d post this for the benefit of others, sensible money from mscView attachment 244985
