L200, comfiest pickup I’ve driven/owned. Loads of them about too.

In 2001 I road tested the navara d22 for a weekend, took it back on Monday and drove to hull to pickup a l200. I didnt get on the slip rd before I wanted to take it back. Didnt bother with the isuzu or ford, gutless both POS.

bought the d22. Great bit of kit, shame they killed it with the next model

All I can say is yes thats the old model, mine is an 06 pram shape,the previous models were more agricultural, most comfortable one I tried thats why I got it , and not the highest hp I think 135, but goes like a bat out of hell , would do well over the limit easily cruise above the limit I reckon , yet when I got my tractor trailer stuck in the field , just put it in low range and it pulled the tractor out forwards and trailer out backwards and thats on road tyres . yes its a scruffy, certainly no show pony but v.happy with it.does exactly what I need and thats what counts

I would love to get a 3.0 n/a diesel banana transit engine, and install it into a proper rustproof chassis. It would only do 60mph - but 60mpg - and would end up in a cockroach motor museum in about 5M AD

That would of been the K74. Had two of those, admittedly pretty basic and agricultural but they have moved on. Our 16 plate is a different beast, 42mpg, high 20’s - low 30’s pulling a car transporter trailer. All day comfort.
Now the Ranger, no I won’t go there

Had a few L200`s, very car like to drive but that engine is very marginal on cooling. Rads need changing before they allow the engine to cook or its game over,Mitzy 2.5`s are ok if you understand them. My personal preference is the totally different 2.8 chain engine in the Shogun and Delicas, have had both and they are absolutely bomb proof even with 3.5 tons of trailer up their chuff.

Just a whipping horse.

It's alright though because Mazda are bringing the bt50 back to the UK
The Mazda built rangers are brilliant trucks went down the hill when ford started building them in house

I would *love* a delicious (not a typo ).
but apparently, they're even worse on fuel than a shogun?
How difficult would it be to put a banannananananana engine, or a Lexus 4.0 1uz-fe (or even a 3.0 2jz-gte) into one?

Didn't Toyota do an equivalent of it if so that might be an easy option as I think the Lexus engines supposedly swap onto Toyota gearboxes quite well being the same company think they have the same bellhousing

On the Mitsubishi's, we have an Outlander 2.3 diesel that sounds like a bag of nails has fallen into the sump at idle! It's bouncy on country lanes making me feel sick and the main STEALERS wanted over £900 for the service at 4 years old! Fark that! No wonder they're going down!

The Delica had a plastiky dash until a bee went down the vent and Two stroke decided it was best to rip it off to get at it

I think Toyota version was called a dyna I think they did a 4x4 version available with a pop up camper bit

And there would be no need to transplant anything into a land cruiser as they where available out the factory with a Lexus badge a tweaked engine

They need to be looked after, regular oil changes.

We have a few Hilux trucks in our work fleet, the 3 months of sitting has done them no good. Electrics are playing up on two of them. Still in their first years warranty, so back to Toyota they go.
