im glad you found this i was searching for that documentAlthough the strings aren't illegal as such, they are not recognised as a suitable repair, as per BSAU159.
Only either a combination plug/patch, or patch with penetration filling material, are deemed an acceptable repair.

as such if you were to have a blow out and crashed how would you stand with your insurance as its not recognised as a suitable repair?

and u have a screw or a nail in your tire and its been there weeks eventually it wears away and your tire goes down .they don't go bang or go down fast so a repair string glued in is hardly likely to come out
