How am I supposed to push these bushes out?

On these wishbone arms the bushes have a lip on one side but nothing on the other, how do they come out

Are you replacing the bushes or what??

As usually remove them but recip saw and cut it into 2. Then hammer and chisel.

Otherwise would try and support the edge and use a press

Mate usualy deals with getting my bushes out on his press , couldn't work out how to with these though, there's no edge on one side.

and ive proved it

the last lot use a blow lamp and burn them out

Tig the outter on to an adapter, attach the biggest slide hammer you can make, should pull out then, the heat will weaken its grip in there. Or tig a heavy cap on the outter and drive them out from the other side.

As above, burn them up and use a hacksaw to cut trough the steel sleeve, it will then pop
out with minimal damage to the arm or subframe...

Looks like one end is a chamfer, should allow some tubing to fit, bit of angle iron over the end of the tube then a length of stud, nuts and washer then tighten and pull the bush through or just burn it out

Be careful of the Merc/VW oil filled rear wishbone suspension bushes.

I took an arm off a Merc - took it outside - layed it on the floor - aimed a propane torch at it - set it alight. Left it to burn. Flame went out - wondered out with air chisel to push rubber out and "egg shell" it - one blat of the air chisel - exhaust of air chisel fed un burnt oil and "woof" - big ball of flames - I did not splatter myself with hot oil either (was lucky).


You gotta be careful adding heat to ball joints and oil filled engine mount bushes.

Try running a knife around the top, you may find you can remove that to expose the metal edge.

Edit: that's what I had to do when I did mine a few weeks ago. I originally tried burning them out and regretted it. Took me 10 times as long to clean up the ones I burnt

I think looking at it again, it's abit similar to the ball joint, you'd have to grind away the lip to expose the arm and give you something to push against.

Chisel the flange away from the arm and cut with a cordless saw* through the flange at an angle away from the arm through the rubber in sections until you can get a tube squarely on the arm then either press it out or pull it through with studding and a BFH.
