I have an industrial one so I presume it will measure the same as these accurately checked the dog the wife and youngster with mine put the red dot bead on them and they wernt amused

Mine was bought for finding hot spots in hydraulic systems, now a home toy, last calibration due 1999 and still works fine.

Ha ha when the batflu kicked off ,I used one to measure the neighbour's forehead temperatures, what a joke! Approaching 40! We were all about to die! (Of course, we are all fine..) Which raises two points:
1) You can't tell if someone had covid 19 by their forehead temp.
2) We have been lied to.

They are good for cooling systems and diagnosing which cyl. head is running hot or whatever.

maybe industrial quality infra red thermometers are better, but diy ones do vary in accuracy depending on what you're pointing them at. metal at the same temperature as organic items can read different temperatures

They are the best toy for exercising cats and dogs. I held the record, for getting my cat to run round the coffee table 23 times without stopping. Utterly useless for accurate work, like finding out if you have a fever, but brilliant for things like spotting a combine harvester wooden straw walker bearing is too tight, or anywhere you have a lot of cool things and oops, one hot one!

I bought mine for helping to tune RC nitro cars, its just a cheapy but works pretty well I would say +- 3 degrees c which is plenty accurate for RC cars but absolutely pants for checking for a fever....

You have to be careful with how far away they are from what you’re measuring as the sample area gets bigger the further away you are. The laser dots just a sight/guide. I don’t really trust them!

Yep completely pointless, all they prove is you don't have a fever at the time your temp is taken.

I've found the IR thermometers to be surprisingly accurate, provided a certain amount of understanding how they work is applied. The divergence or acceptance angle needs to be known i.e. it's not just the laser dot, plus the need to allow for IR reflective surfaces, especially aluminium and copper.

As an example, pointing the thermomenters on a paint finish kettle on the boil reads 100degC on two different IR thermometers, plus also on a FLIR thermal camera.

I picked up a neat pen shaped infrared type for a tenner, basic but works great for finding cold-spots in houses (so insulation can be fitted or upgraded), also handy for working on cars and daily life when needed. It's a lot smaller than other hand-helds so it takes less space in the tooldbox.

Same here! Then the Mrs had an anti-body test on Monday, tested negative.

There is little scientific evidence to support temperature screening as a reliable method for detection of COVID-19 or other febrile illness, especially if used as the main method of testing.

Temperature readings from temperature screening systems will measure skin temperature rather than core body temperature. In either case, natural fluctuations in temperature can occur among healthy individuals. These readings are therefore an unreliable measure for detection of COVID-19 or other diseases which may cause fever. Furthermore, infected people who do not develop a fever or who do not show any symptoms would not be detected by a temperature reading and could be more likely to unknowingly spread the virus.

So, as proper temperature measurement CE marked devices meeting the required standard for clinical thermometers with a ±0.3 °C accuracy over the 34°C to 43°C range (as per BS EN ISO 80601-2-56:2017) aren't a valid COVID-19 diagnostic tool, yet all the chancers are selling £15 Chinese jobs...
