Anyone know current ratings for the 4.7mm bullet and quarter inch lucas connectors

I was wondering what the actual ratings are but haven't been able to find them

I am talking about the solid brass 4.7mm lucas bullet connectors which are available to crimp on up to 3mm2 cable

and also the standard lucas quarter inch spade terminals that are in common use on older cars

I've always figured a connector can take the same current as the biggest cable that can fit in it...

The power range, current it can handle is limited by the size of the cable that can be fitted to it and crimped correctly.

That's why they come in different colour indications.
Red.
Blue.
Yellow.
Brown.

That will help work out what the power rating of the cable is. Then a simple cross reference to cable size to crimp size.

It’s likely the 4.7mm solid bullet will handle about 40amp it take a higher load than a 3mm cable, would be concerned with the female connection as it would be much thinner though so rating to the cable would be a start.
The spade crimp would depend on its thickness, would ask No more than 10amp Of this type, again the female connection can be the weak link.

Like yellow mentioned, crimping correctly is important, run solder into the joints after crimping.

I don't have a specific application but have been using them for years and realised I had no idea what the limits actually are

What started me thinking was a need to join the main ignition feed on a vehicle. I have gone for a proper junction box for that one but wondered what the limits actually are

Thinking about modern(ish) fuse boxes that have quarter flat lucas connectors to 30a fuses which are probably carrying 15 to 20 amps normally and then 3/8 flat lucas connectors fused at 60a

quite possibly, I have seen reference to lucas but nothing definitive

ripca certainly make/brand a crimper for them but only seem to currently sell the single and double female connectors for them rather than the bullets themselves

They were and here's my crimper. I'm surprised to find that they're still in business, but they don't make that style anymore.
