work well on cordless grinders , as they spin slower , but they are hard on batteries .

When I was building my workshop I bought a couple of cheap cup wire brushes at the car boot sale, for my 4" grinder, to clean all the mortar off after my rubbish block laying. It worked fine..for about 30 seconds, then the whole thing blew apart monumentally.

I checked the small print on the remains and it said 'max rpm 6000', whereas my grinder was something like 12,000rpm. Luckily I had all the gear on, coveralls, safety glass and heavy gloves, or it could have been very painful.......

They are excellent but require a healthy amount of respect

never seen one for a 9” angry grinder tough. They are scary enough with out any fancy attachments

I only use them on a corded drill now

I use an old angle drill for wire brushes
Easier to hold than a drill.

I made an adapter to put 8" bench grinder wire wheels on y 7" angle grinder when they have worn down a bit. Also have one for soft-bristle 5" wire wheels on my 5" grinder and they are fantastic for cleaning up lightly rusted bits without damaging the surface.

You have to wear gloves and goggles and overalls/apron though and you still get wires stuck in your clothes.

When I was working offshore one of our filipino deck crew asked me to turn him up an adapter for a power saw blade. No problems, we had a late.

It wasn't until later, when I saw him out on the back deck, that I realised he was fitting a carbide tipped 10" power saw blade into a 9" angry grinder, with intentions of using it to clear thick rust off the deck! I soon put a stop to his plans.

Had proper ppe on but don't thing even jubilee clips would have been man enough....
I don't mind the brush on flat stuff but use a smaller one for the corners and edges
Apart from the hub it isn't that badly made.... the wires are through a steel plate so for them to properly escape would be hard

I had a Nu Tool angle grinder (I know, crap tools) and the spindle on the gearbox sheared off . that went off like a demented frisbee, bouncing off anything it touched.

Ouch. I did this a month or so back with a little cup brush on the 4.5 in grinder. It just caught the edge of the plate and jumped on me. Had gloves on but it hit right on the elastic cuff. One of those things you are scared to roll the sleeve and have a look ...

I think I’ve mentioned on here before I’ve got a 9 in grinder I bought to do one job and it’s sat under the bench ever since. Scares me silly.

That would definitely wake you up a bit! I quite often use one on the 9inch grinder, bit less vibration and the weight of the grinder does a bit more of the work for you.

Edit. I’ve just posted that then looked at my finger that I sliced to the bone a couple weeks back scooping “he last couple of cutlery” out the dishwater and hit the bread knife. Straight through. Off the guitar for 2 weeks! And then the left thumb that I whacked when one of the arris rails I was attaching decided to drop straight down onto my hand and now have tingling and numbness through it.

lockdown seems to have been a period of many injuries to me. Wonder if it’s a widespread side effect !?

The place i spent the last year of my apprenticeship, banned those wirewheels in the workshops. Not to be used under any circumstances, too many accidents, including a lad that caught the leg of his overalls with one. Lethal things.
