Hi all first question on a forum for me a complete diy amateur I’m looking for goggles for mig welding, not the auto darkening ones but good old style flip up lenses, of which I’m led to believe should be shade 10 or above.......can anyone help please !!??

You can use Goggles for Mig welding if you want to be down A&E by the afternoon in the serious burns unit

So what are we using for tight under the 4x4 other than the auto mask ???

Joking aside, welding without full face and neck protection will very soon end up with you having a face the colour of the one in that photo.
If you’re really that limited for space then you might get away with using a “monkey mask”.

Automask, having been wedged under a car last week i have 4 small burns from splatter, with googles you will likely end up in a&e

I've seen a guy in Africa using a CD. Dont do that! Automask. Same as @mtt.tr I've been welding flat out this week, overhead arc in a cramped space. Autoarc and breather was fine. Depends what you're used to I think.

You know a cereal box, with a rectangle cut out, and sweet wrappers taped across it?

That's your welding mask that is.

Snap on did do a pair of goggles with auto lens in, and a removable bottom half like a Lecter mask! I think you can still buy them, just don't use them without the bottom half like I've seen some guys do

Most welding done under a car is going to be splattery and overhead.
You might get away without getting sunburn or skin cancer doing a couple of short welds with only eye protection but get a tiny bit of weld splatter on your lips or the tip of your tounge and you will be suffering for days.

Cheap hand held mask if you are worried about bashing it about. I have a old one with a set of holes drilled around the outside of the frame. Can be held in place with bungee cords or cable ties if you need both hands to weld something.

Or splash out on the optrel weldcap if you like ramming your head into tight spaces.

I wear my Speedglas , Im a big lad and can still get in everywhere Ive ever needed to , some days its not comfy , you may end up with an arm each side of a chassis and your head jammed against the floor , welding overhead on old steel with your left hand ,, but you still need a mask. my Speedglas has done very well for all the corners its been jammed into , what I would say is get a mask with the knobs and doo dahs on the inside if thats the route your going down.

I'm just a hobbyist and my eBay helmet [no sniggering at the back there...] which is perfectly adequate for my needs, cost just less than £30. I went for one with the big screen.

Jack the car up to get more space, when you buy your mask buy a hood as well.
