whats the best material to use to brace a car shell before cutting rust and rot out ?

I've only every used whatever was lying about, you should be using it mostly in compression so it does need to be mega thick.

If you need to buy something I don't think you'd go far wrong with some 20mm box. need it stronger? Weld two bits together.

Used various things, from whatever is to hand to old scaffolding tubes.

I have seen a thing like a really big water screw with a clamp on each end that nips onto panel seams. I would probably try that in future but I hate welding old cars especially other peoples so it probably won’t happen!
