Weld nut?

I need to bolt through some 3/4" medium pipe.
What is the best method to retain some strength around it.
Slug through or weld nut.
I would rather have the top flush.

How far from the end of the pipe is the fixing? You could just drill a hole and use a cross dowel barrel nut inside the pipe. If in the middle of a really long pipe, with a bit of ingenuity, you could poke a wire through the hole and out the end of the pipe, tie the nut to the wire and pull it into place. Silicone to hold it temporarily while you cut the wire and thread in the bolt. If not too long, glue the nut to a long something and poke it in. Thread in the bolt and remove the something.

If it does not have to be an unbroken run of pipe or you want a heavy duty fixing approaching the diameter of the pipe itself, put in a Tee. That will give you a female pipe thread. Loctite in a blanking plug and drill and tap it for your chosen securing thread.

The ends of the pipe have no opening it is a bike frame.
Thinking if I bore right through and install a slug I will make that area weak.

I can't find those shaped nuts anywhere down here the closest was flat type.

Drill a hole through the pipe and weld a bit of studding in top and bottom leaving enough thread to attach whatever it is with a nut. Tube wont be weakened and cant crush then.

Or do the same with a connecting nut if long enough. This way can have the nut wanted but then profile it back to the frame and keep the sleek look if needed.

I didn't think to do it the opposite way
Won't a 10mm hole through 20mm pipe take out over a third of the material?

Making it vulnerable to fatigue cracking.

What are you bolting to a bike frame to need a m10?!

Even the brakes and bits are only m6-m8 absolute max

Could you curve a flat one ,or curve a washer or disc and then weld a nut on to it ?

A lot of the strength will go if you start drilling holes (working bike frame?)
Material weldability might be a consideration as well.

Not that I understand what you are doing but ...
Can you weld a nut or coupling nut to a bit of thicker wall tube the next size up from your bike frame to create your curved weld nut, then weld that to your bike frame?

Knowing your work, the item with be both functional and decorative so I won't ask why you want to do it this way.

You could, with your skills, create a spreader plate, with a threaded section built in I'm sure. Much like that top one but with the thread going into the tube -all the way through if required.

Spreader plate could be fashioned in old braze on brackets style or a cleaner modern style.

You could weld/braze around the top hat section for a bit of extra re-enforcement.

Only gone up to m6 in a bike frame before though.

Yes, I toyed with that idea.
We have a manual puller at work.
There's not much of a flange on them I might do some test runs.

There are riv nuts without flange too, you just counter sink them in a bit and they will be flush.
