Hours drive home today, absolutely faultless all my careful waterproofing of the electrics and homebuilt led side lights all work
Mostly country roads was happily cruise at 50 mph sat mostly in 4th gear only shifting down when stopping.
Cabin noise was a consistent 76-80db wright of road have ran out of mats factory still locked down
im on a list for one.
Springs should be here early next week

I had a brochure somewhere for the tdi when they first came out and i recall it stated 88mph top speed. This is the closest I can find online - https://www.lro.com/reviews/1990-1998-defender-tdi-4x4-review
That looks tidy. I wish I had bought one years ago to add to the collection but the prices are going up now so not sure I will ever get one!

Will be going flatbed as i intended in 2014 even have ally, mrs wouldn't sell her tiny little car so bought a van for holidays and dog transport.
Now she has an estate i can get back to 4 years ago.

Theoretical top speed due to gearing of for a 300Tdi with R380 and 1.4 transfer box is 139 mph but due to aerodynamics and power it meets physics and mother nature before then. I did work through the numbers a while ago and assuming 100hp for a 300Tdi I think it was about 110mph was possible.so what was its standard top speed ,,, before 950s or what ever with a standard trans box ,,, would you say ...?

I've had 100 out of my 300Tdi 110 with 32" tyres downhill with a tailwind when I had the 1.4 box and the engine felt like it was screaming. Wasn't particularly pleasant, but will comfortably cruise at 80mph once the gearbox and diff oils have warmed up a bit. I find doing Wales -> Surrey around Bristol she prefers cruising at a slightly higher speed.
as soon as i get some spare time im off to try ,,,, ive a good choice of land rovers to choose ,,, Im sticking with my 55 theory ,, the few discoverys ive owned were noticeably quicker and quieter , and generally a nicer drive , but they rust even faster .. granted the 3s up do seem to have sorted out the rust issues , Ive never welded one Im glad to say , as they look like a nightmare if you ever had to.

Heck this thing will just about sit at 60mph with a truly gutless Nissan 2.8 turbo diesel in it (almost certainly need to sort out timing, tappets and various other things on it) but haven't bothered yet and I'm liking the sound of a 6.2 or 6.5 V8 diesel more and more for it.

a lad I worked with had 200bhp out of his 300 it was magazine featured years back as it was a rare number back then he raced a Passat tdi and beat it. That was weird watching that in the passenger seat. His was lowered and was a fast road auto as he had another with 37” simexs

When my BIL worked for [big] bus co, shell supplied a new oil for Diffs. At the time the diff oil was changed every 50k, that could be once a fortnight. They already had data on mpg on each bus and on each route. They changed the oil to this new oil from Shell the buses returned >3% reduction in fuel consumption.
Better still oil changes increased to 250k. He gave me enough to out in the diffs and transfer box. WOW what a difference. I didnt have it in long enough to see the mpg change as it was stolen
