Dissapointing from Knipex

prob designed by a 21 year old just allowed out from Uni......never used a spanner in his / her life...........
have also got the largest Knipex pipe pliers...£100....quite the dog's.....better than Channel Locks.....yes.....

which way were u tightening it if the spanner had been used anti clockwise from the position you show all the main pressure from the nut would be on the outside of the fixed jaw and very little on the sliding one .used the other way on would put a lot of strain on the outer sliding jaw . sam,e principle as using a bench vice always knock or bend back towards the fixed jaw

I also have any other pair I bought from an autojumble for a few quid that I think are fake! They look exactly like the real ones but put next to each other they are fatter all round , maybe to make up for the lower quality metal??
Where did you get yours from?

I have 5 pairs of them paid a fiver a piece for them second hand at autojumble good quality and never slip and had some stick

They were being used correctly, the sliding jaw following, not that it should really matter a great deal since they are designed for far more than just shifting nuts.

I cant see them not changing it

They've told me it's Amazon's problem because the don't sell directly in the UK.

Shouldn't be a problem getting it sorted though.

Are you sure they are genuine Knipex?...i have never seen a break across there before from the type and it almost looks like monkey metal from the pic

I've no reason to believe they are not, sold by Amazon directly, not fulfilled by.

These aren't my first or only pair either.

Don't know what you're looking at but they look like standard knipex satin chrome.

Either way, replacement is en route.

I've got a few bits and pieces of knipex, I've not managed to damage any of them yet so they must be pretty good. I like them, and the parallel jaw ones are excellent. We have some Stahlwillie and snap-on stuff at work, to be honest when it comes to pliers I prefer the knipex. Except for duckbills and wire locking pliers, snap-on usually have the edge with them.

i have a load of Elliot lucas snips and pliers the pliers were a tenner and the snips 8 quid from a toolstall at ruffoth autojumble they are the same quality as the knipex and virtualy identical .id defy anyone to say there was any difference in quality and ive been using both makes day in and day out I. get about a year out of them before the edge is slightly of them and wont cut single strands of flex

There is a lot of counterfeiting going on, wouldn’t be surprised at all to find these are fakes. No easy way to tell without knowing the model better but aren’t they supposed to have a ground finish on the jaw sides? Those look cast and not particularly well finished.

I would, that's the whole point of buying from a reputable supplier.

The grey atrementizied have a ground finished on the jaws but the chrome plated have the satin chrome on them, even the old style are the same.

Apparantly they are forged, not cast, finish looks identical to that on the knipex website.

You've got me curious now though, I'm going to ask knipex.

I’m sure someone on here ought to be able to spot the subtle difference between a forging and a casting in your picture. Beyond me I’m afraid but yours sure do look cast to my untrained eye.

I would definitely agree but according to knipex these letters (DM) are a forging mark for traceability.

I’d be interested to learn how that works. Agree that cutout is almost exactly where you don’t want it. That’s a long handle so the jaws really need to be super strong and after all these years you would have thought they would have got it right by now.

I suppose it is possible they just made a mistake in the redesign or there is a materials failure.

I've got a Rothenburg and it looks a dead ringer for the Knipex on the right.

Did Rothenburg copy or do Knipex make them for Rothenburg

both the same more than likely made in same factory just stamped different name both pukka quality

Knipex have confirmed as genuine, there customer service is excellent.

They also want to get a hold of them for analysis as this failure is so unusual.

That's really good to hear.

I've decided they look like really handy things for "finessing" a sheet metal edge a bit more gentle than cobra pliers or molegrips!
