I use a Hilti drill with sds plus with core drills 40/50 mm,always on hammer as I can’t get them to cut on rotary only,today for the 3 rd time in as many years,the adapter shank snapped deep inside the nose of the machine,which came out with dismantling,does anyone experience this with regular use of cores,or is it a consequence of hammer use?

diamond cores aren't supposed to be run on hammer. not good for them

I was taught never to use the hammer function with diamond tipped core cutters, the hammer action apparently rips the diamonds off the cutter.

Change to diamond, turn hammer off.
At those sizes a good diamond core will fly through .

Aye, you use those with hammer. They do tend to break off the taper adapter when heavily used. TBH they will drill concrete (but not the hardest type as the advert claims) but really they are only good for blockwork. Tend to blow the back of the hole out badly on exit.

when core drilling or augering through joists ive never let anyone working with me do them 
the amount of people I see haven't got the upper arm strength to hold the machine and end up on the floor with broken wrists 
even though its knacking work I do it myself 
having said that I grit my teeth sometimes and had to let go and watch the drill wind up the flex then snap 
only once I was up a pair of steps augering and got hit in the face with the drill that had no clutch and layed me out off the steps no one on site neither . the owner of house came in and helped me up battered and bruised went home . didn't do that again

I used to hire a core drill but it was about £40 a time so I bought a DeWalt core drill for about £170 and a 5 piece edge core drill set for about £100 and it drilled probably a hundred holes, as easily as the ones I hired. Drill only died when I lent it my brother who then sub lent it to his mate to do his bathroom. Came back with half the teeth on the gear box flattened and half the teeth on one core missing 
. It owed me nothing and I've bought the same one again.
