Hi Everyone, I am about to move house and at the new place I have a double garage so I can tinker with my cars. The only thing is security. The house is in the middle of nowhere. I will be keeping my tool boxes in there so I wanted to chain them up to the wall does anyone have any sugestions of how this can be done ?

I wouldn't bother, any self-respecting burglar would come armed with bolt croppers, on the 2nd visit if not the first.
If you have a cavity wall some device you poke through a hole into the cavity might be OK - think umbrella with a chain welded to the handle.

I've always prefered to make the doors stronger myself, I also personally dont like windows in a garage, if tea-leafs can't see whats on offer, they're less likely to bother.
I usually make the door frames out of 3" x 3", 4" x 2" or 4" x 4" box section, the doors are19+ mm Plywood with a 4 x 2 wooden frame screwed n glued on the back, self made barn door type hinges and decent chubb locks and drop bolts.
So far touch wood, I've never had a problem, I feel if theres easier pickings else where they'll leave me alone.
It will cost quite a bit (500 quid-ish) but just add up the cost of replacing your tools with new ones.
Now sit down and read your house insurance, I bet your only covered up to a certain limit and if conditions A,B,C,D,E and F aren't in place you aren't insurured.
Serveral years ago I had to list my tools (the replacement valve for my accountant), it came to around 80.000+ well worth the garage door money.

out of the garage it self.
I am in the same situation as yourself, I have converted my up and over door to a 4 point locking system with a 5 lever mortice lock,locking the handle,and externaly, ctr top of the door I have one of those solid "puck" type van locks inside a home made completely protective housing. The Heavy duty batten side door is clad on the inside with steel sheet, Two side windows protected with 1" square galv mesh, To top it all off the garage has it's own alarm system,i;e Contact switches on both doors, and vibration sensors on the windows.

whilst were on the subject.a buddy of mine lives in a not so good area and has an 'up and over' garage door he keeps asking me to figure out a way to make it more secure but heres the catch he goes in through both sides so we cant just put a post on the outside or a shackle on the inside as this would limit the acces to either

2"x2" box section framework with 1.6 sheet welded to it. the main problem we came up next was the lock so we bolted an eyelet to the wall and made a metal box attached to the door slide over it. Then the padlock goes on to the eyelet. when we designed it we worked out how big to make the access hole so nobody can get bolt croppers up there.
Maybe a little OTT but it keep the little barstards out

i no its abit off topic but my neighbour has a shed in his garden and theres a pole that goes in through the side across the door so it cant be opened unless its pulled out and its hidden because its against sum bushes and thats never been broken into lol

A mate of mine fitted one to a property, jeezusss!!! what a row! two of them would certainly scare the bejezus out of any would be intruder. couple that with a smoke bomb or two - a very, very disorientating experience and enough to create enough noise to alert anyone in the locale to attempt to resolve/call the rozzers.
If you don't have an alarm, consider one - Honeywell Galaxy panel with decent dual-tec pir's and a handful of sensors on the doors, windows etc. these are what is used within banks etc and have response centre's available to 'listen in' with a microphone within the PIR.
don't forget CCTV a web-enabled DVR and a few colour camera's can be had for not a lot of money.
fitting an alarm is a fairly straightforward job, depending, the galaxy panels are a bit time consuming to comission (they are commercial grade), but, if its crap (as in B&Q type stuff) i honestly wouldnt bother - cheapy ones can be taken out of action without much knowledge and fairly easily. (so i'm told by the security man!)

) for an internal sounder, be cheaper to employ royal protection squad...I think the reality is that if some lowlife really wants to break in to your garage and steal your property then he will manage somehow. Installing visible security measures just sends out the message that there is something inside that is worth stealing. Some businesses spend a kings ransom on security and still get turned over. For me, the best security i have is the dog, not a great snarling vicious beast, just a bog standard flea bitten mongrel. A dog will sense an intruder as soon as he sets foot on your property and raise the alarm.

My garage also has no windows - I dearly wanted to fit some but decided that security was more impotant. My alley-facing door is a 2-hour steel-clad fire door weighing 3 hundredweight. It's hold off an army.
As for your toolboxes all I can suggest is take the wheels off and bolt them down. Chains are useless against a burglar armed with a cordless mini-grinder fitted with a 1mm cutting disc no matter how good they are.

I live in an area with a high crime rate, so take extreme measures to protect my hard earned equipment.
I've had one attempted break-in but the dog heard him, but no doubt they will be back.

- Third, PIR censor alarm inside the shed.
- Forth, all expensive equipment locked inside a steel chest.
- other equipment that is to big, is chained to the floor.
- Most important of all, a dog with acute hearing and a load bark

specialist stuff = £200(?)
tool cabinets = £100-2000!
spending around £600-ish (alarm panel, sensors, klaxon etc) on security doesn't seem that expensive comparative
(I wish I could afford that much £ in tools, but still, i've got bank-level security on the house and garage, for no reason other than to buy a proper alarm wasnt much more than a crap one)
