M6 captive nut query

The front wing of my tr7 bolts to the front panel, the wing has a plate welded inside the end with 4 m6 nuts attached for the fastenings.
Now 2 of them are stripped so I just ordered some m6 weldnuts. However the weldnuts are too small measuring 10mm across the flats whereas the current captive nuts measure approx 14mm.
I've looked but cannot see find anything similar.
What's the best way to recreate the nut, I was just thinking hexaganol bar & part it off & tap it, suggestions welcome.

How about just replacing with a rivnut/ nutsert type thing or helicoil the original back to m6?

Hi, Unistrut nut, they come in 6mm flavour. just trim it down to size required.

Is the issue here originality? If so your idea of using 14mm hexagonal bar is a good one.

you can buy a thing called a t nut , used in woodwork , they are handy but they will need trimming to work.

i have used them in plain steel , they are handy , used a lot for holding speakers into boxes and the likes

I always find them to be low quality and thin , and plated ,,, affectionately known as spouting nuts , for some reason they always seem to found with the equally nasty spouting bolts , holding down land rover floor plates ,,, cant be undone , spin if you drill them , move if you grind them , snap if you dont want them to , and hang on to the grim end if you want them to snap ,,, lol

weld up the originals and drill & tap?

use a bit of thicker plate , drill a few holes and tap them , weld nothing ,, but there must be a reason op didnt want to do this ,,

Some food for thought there, would like to keep as close to original as possible, I just thought it would be a standard fitment.
I'll remove the plate & see what's the best approach, cheers

ah ,,, you need turret nuts ,,, ill get a pic
