Seriously though - have you thought about a pair of loppers and a pruning saw? I’d say you would be unlikely to come a cropper with the gestapo carrying those. If you get found with a machete you might get away with it, or you “might” get your collar felt - don’t think I’d take the chance personally

The usual army issue machete made by martindale is a horrible thing, thick, too short & known as a "tree beater". Martindale did make some good ones though, i have one that is reputedly a sugar cane panga, Its about 34" long & has a very thin blade that can take a good edge. You have to be bloody careful wielding it. I got it from a bloke up the farm where i had a workshop. Martindales had a fire at the factory & he bought the entire contents of a unit that was full of smoke damaged machetes & billhooks, some had charred handles but most were ok.
Most of them got exported to the Gambia in the early 90's. It was said that many ended up in Rwanda.
