1st of all I'm no longer self employed. still work from home but not a lot these days.
scrap tubing I have plenty of and odd plates.
these L shape brackets are for the old Z1300.
when they 1st came out they didn't have grab rails on therefor no mounts to fit them.
these are what these brkts for.
I think £40 be a fair price.

I think £40’s too cheap how much would R&G sell them for or an equivalent model

you could work on charging them as follows

10 / hour if you do it
15 / hour if they watch
20 / hour if they help
25 / hour if they insist on telling you how to do it.

I actually printed up a very similar price list at work, it also included extra for supplying own parts, supplying own parts that were incorrect, etc. started at £60.00 hour, we were cheap, and never made a real profit!

The problem with that statement is it implies if you pay more you get something better and that is just not true. Sure you may need to pay more to get something better but paying more doesn't guarantee you'll get better.

I've had quotes for stuff where someone was clearly just chancing their arm or didn't want the job, if you can run a business like that then fair play to you.

like I've said I'm retired now but little work like that keeps me occupied.
no rush etc. I enjoy making things.
just made a stand and paint 10 tin cans for my grandkids to play with. kids love throwing things.
bought 6 bag/balls for them to knock the tins over.
going to make another for my neighbours kids.
keeps me going.

I’ve done a few quotes for silly money as didn’t want the job, only to be the least silly quote and got the job anyway ( in my area of work you don’t turn anything down as the customers don’t like to be told no. )

C stands for Cheap how it works is simple ,,, you can have any two ,, but it wont be the third.


ie ,, take the F and the G ,,, means it will be Fast and Good , but it wont be Cheap

I work to my own very comprehensive pricing menu because there are so many different parameters,customers,attitudes,job types,current weather,current work availability, etc etc etc and i have a dish from the menu to suit every type of client and every price range for the same job...this day and age you cant afford to say to a client "here is my price,take it or leave it" as the guy behind you will scoop the work up with a more cunning approach so i always try my best never to lose work over costings as there are many ways to tackle the same job and each way costing different

if I have to give a price and I know theres a weeks work I price for a week and a day if I get the job il allways score even if it goes slightly pear shaped as I have a day in reserve that covers it .if all goes well im up on the job a day .doing that never tell the customer how long it will take as if u finish early they get narked and expect something back priced a job other day 4 hours and done it in 2 and a half it could have turned nasty but it didn't

If it gets done sooner, Then they think your doing them the favour

Too many people think your ripping them off, When they clearly have no understanding of the real working world

I once did a electrical work for customer(before the law changed)
I fitted 2 socket switches in a kitchen .I had to chanel the walls out so that the cables dont show. anyway to cut the story short.
when all done they ask if I come back the next day for the money.
I said no I need the money now.
at the time the electricity board charge £45 per socket.
we havent got the money so I said just pop down to the garage theres a hole in the wall and I'll wait.
they were adamant that they wanted to pay the next day.
I said ok but I'm taking everything out and refit it tomorrow but will cost you £90.
husband went up stairs and came down with £45.
I knew if I had gone out that would be the end of it.

Promises of work rarely materialise

The SECOND anyone says "and if you do a good job of this there will be loads more" I lose instant interest and I will not be doing it. The translation of this is "I want you to do this for free as a test" or just simply, you are not getting paid.

Same as those who pay themselves minimum wage then take dividends to pay less tax. Gutted when unsurprisingly dividends dont count in the calculation

The calculation is simple for many; years and years of paying minimum anything OR three months of subsidised pay. They can't complain if they got nothing, you can't have your cake and eat it.

Eg. Kitchen . Always booked as 2 weeks plus skim and sparks (plumber if needed)
I'm gives me time in hand. Nothing worse than rushing a kitchen
