One thing that we all forget you can be a one man band self employed or self employed and employing people.

I had a discussion with a friend of mine who is self employed, the numbers are exact but this is the basics of it.
He bought an item for £500, worked on it for 2 days and paid himself £150 a day. He sold the item for £800 and declared it wasn't worth doing because there was no profit in it. I pointed out the obvious fact that he earnt 2 days money out of it, and if he hadn't done it then he wouldn't have earnt anything. If he had been employing someone then I could understand the issue but he was paying himself.

In my experience of the world people who are really quick to tell you how much they earn have issues and often don't earn anywhere near what they tell you. I remember a friend of a friend probably 20 years ago on a night out making a big deal telling me how he earnt £45K. It all went a bit quiet when I asked why he was living in his mates spare room had an average car yet I owned my own house. Sadly he had a couple of hangers on who thought he was really it.

Sadly we live in a world where skil/knowledge doesn't always mean a good wage. My wife has a couple of jobs and at one place they pay their cleaner £15/hr, she is earning less running the office.

Geezer came round the house this morning in a brand spanking new Mercedes Vito, top of the range, to repair my sisters phone.
This was about 12 o clock and he had done 6 phone screens already this morning.

My Vito may be old but it is bought and paid for. As for six home visits before mid day, yer right first customer at 5AM

Can't fathom how you can charge that and make money.

Ah, but when they are taking 120 a day, and the majority is going straight in their pockets, bypassing the taxman, it probably doesn't seem quite so bad

she got it for £300 from a geezer... from faceache, the bloke turned up and a level base looks like a hogs been digging in the garden he’s taken up far more than needed now she wants my mate to come and rectify it. He said he’s too busy and can’t get over

Yep, i'll hold my hand up to that , but in fairness to myself , even though my work has more or less completely been put on stop, I've not entertained the idea of trying to claim my furlough money (80% of £733).
Although i'm pretty sure we are ALL going to be paying for this in the end in increased corporation tax as well as income tax.

That's why I'm claiming, we are all paying so might as well.
I've had a good couple of years, had to go VAT etc so I've paid plenty of tax and the nature of what I do means cash is more hassle and I end up paying most of it into the bank
