I have a Magnum 210a mig welder which I bought new in 1997. It has been a superb machine; I've done some very heavy projects and it's never missed a beat.
But recently I started having problems with the wire sticking so I decided to splash out and buy a whole new Euro-torch. I didn't buy new wire but I took several layers off the spool as I sometimes have problems with it going off if I don't use it for a while. The welder worked ok-ish at first but it gradually got worse, so I took a load more wire off the spool and bought some weld-aid lube-matic. This made no difference so I figured the old wire must have contanimated the new liner; I bought another liner and a new roll of wire, fitted them, and it still wouldn't feed.
I replaced the feed roller for one with serated grooves as the old one had smooth grooves. This has meant that instead of the roller slipping, the wire knots up inside the machine.
It seems to snag in the neck of the torch and become really hard to pull through.
Is it time to scrap the machine and get something newer? I'm a bit loathe to, because the transformer is fine and everything else seems to be new now apart from the feed motor assembly which works. Am I missing something?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
