Planning on shooting 300m, 400m.The bullets are 70gr ballistic tip, they should fragment on impact. Possibly leave a dimple on the surface

These were German Bullets, had a very hard nose.

How are you getting the gates to rust? I have used salt+vinegar+water sprayed on the steel- It does produce surface rust quite quickly, but easily wipes off. Do you have a better approach?

Time!
When I’ve done NT projects,then I’ve used salt water.

Nipped down to the workshop to pick up some tools and ended up doing some work.

First off I cut up a sheet of 1.5mm 316 stainless, cut at 3000mm/min but probably should have been a bit faster but it went ok.

What was left after cutting.

Then I cut some Aluminium to make another box separator for Lobsters but this time for bigger ones, so only 6 divisions instead of 9 as in yesterdays one.

Also some to make a bracket for a small depth sounder which had broken.

Then I decided to tack up some of the stainless to make sure it all fitted together correctly, still have 2 more to tack and then add the tube but that can wait for another day.

made a trigger switch set up for the Tig torch and finally managed to re attach the handle on the lid of the ikea pot that broke 6 years ago.

Hydrogen peroxide (hair dye) works very well but again needs a bit of time.

Today’s job is a shed door to be timbered out . Unfortunately my own gates go on the back burner till this is finished and iv no material to make a hinge till Tuesday

I used to do a bit of spoon carving, just using a pen knife and a crook knife but always intended to try making my own knives for it. Got the urge to do some more carving, but decided I would have a go at making a sloyd (carving knife) first.
Roughed out the blade today from an old flat chainsaw file. Apart from removing the teeth from the file everything was done with hand tools. A bit more work before I can try hardening and tempering the blade.

Don’t know if you’d call it stuff but I’ve made the family happy! We had a very loud vibration when you flushed the toilet. I’ve been under the floor checking for pipes vibrating whilst no2 son flushes the toilet. Nothing obvious but the noise was deafening. Put some extra clips on just to see if it helped - no. Had done other things before doing this, turning the water flow down, adjusting things in the cistern. Nothing. We have to toilets both with the same cistern, swapped all the internals over, yeeees, quiet. Put the noisy internals in the en-suite, they’re quiet too. No idea what’s different but I don’t care, it’s quiet.

Today I acquired... lots of space to work in (stay with me, I assure you I'm posting in the right thread!)

I've been wanting to get back into wood bothering for many, many years (basically since moving out from my parents' house about 25 years ago) but haven't had the space. My workshop is a single garage; one half of it has a lathe, milling machine, grinders, drill press, bandsaw and lots and lots of drawers. The other half of the workshop had two motorbikes and a more drawers and other storage units in between them.

One of the motorbikes (a Yamaha Fazer that's my OH's) hasn't been ridden in at least 3 years and probably won't be again (if she gets back into riding, I think we'll get something different and hopefully will have moved house by then). The plan had been to MOT and sell it in March, but Covid put the kibosh on that, so selling it got postponed for what will probably be a year. Step in my kindly neighbour who has let me put the Fazer in his garage until we can sell it. No charge, but I've ordered him a good bottle of Springbank whisky to say thank you.

Having moved the motorbike, I did a major reorganisation of the garage and shed this weekend. The shed is now much easier to get into with everything on shelves and relatively accessible. Having cleared basically a quarter of the garage I was able to make myself a whole new bench and fit some plywood to the wall as a shadow board:

The bench is modelled on my existing bench, which I got for free when my previous employer decided to refit the electronics lab and had a couple of benches leftover (of which I got one). I liked the sturdiness of it so I did something similar: three bits of 18 mm plywood glued and screwed together to make a circa 52 mm thick worktop.

Unfortunately, I haven't really got anywhere else to put the drawer unit I made recently, so that takes up a bit of the worktop, but there's still 1.6 m of clear space:

I've got a lot of clearing up and organising to do so I'm not sure what it'll look like when I've found a home for everything that's currently cluttering up the other end of the garage, but I'm feeling quite pleased at having a potential woodworking area in the garage.

Also made a while ago a guard for outlet. The delivery guy have been standing on it.

Stuff made yesterday, and today.

1/ Unwrapped and stored my new order of leather hides, and cut one of the hides into lots of gun belt blanks.
2/ Cut out 5 western rigs, ready for decoration.
3/ Dug through my fabric stash, and cut out 12 face masks on my Cricut machine.
4/ Stitched together 4 face masks, realised I had used up all my narrow elastic, so got creative with thin paracord and some toggles.
6/ Sent scary picture of self wearing the biggest face mask ever, to one of the chaps who asked me to make some for him.
7/ Stamped the border decoration on four belts, 8 billets, and five holsters.
8/ Created yet another over complicated, stupid John Wayne gun belt out of Valerie Singleton’s knicker elastic, and sticky backed plastic (well, felt like it).
9/ Had a mutton sandwich, and a glass of red wine.
