And it just goes to show nothing has changed. Those in power sent men and boys to their death, while sat behind a desk. Ordinary people who just wanted to help their fellow man, Not wanting a medal, or money. Just right from wrong.

We live in unprecedented times and what this legend has achieved is beyond belief. We could plan for the situation we are in but it would be massively wasteful for most of the time.
Those people who think he shouldn't need to do it are taking away from his efforts. He is just doing what he was clearly brought to do, serve his country.
I'm not really sure what tribute would fit his achievement but we are all very grateful.
We all like something to believe in and this is an amazing story, imagine if he was your dad,grandad,great grandad, that legacy will live on for ever.
He comes from a generation where pride meant something and I wish we could go back to times like that.

the irony is that 40 years ago, during the cold war we no doubt would have had a plan that could have been rapidly put in place to deal with a country wide biological threat

The RAF"s Spitfire and Hurricane were certainly not grounded, they made 3 passes over Captain Tom's garden.
Lancaster couldn't join in as the crew required to fly it cannot keep 2 metres apart.
I'm sure this is one of those situations where we could all have accepted the guidance not being adhered to.

Congratulations Captain Tom on achieving two milestones most of us can only dream of; making a century and raising so much for a very good cause. Happy 100th and a well deserved promotion. One of the few who truly deserve a knighthood.
On the whimsical side, now that Captain Tom has been promoted to colonel, it's a good job his surname isn't Sanders.
