Garden Hose

I know I am going to regret this.....

We (it is a decree) need a new garden hose apparently. What is out there? Needs to be flexible and preferably on a reel but this is not a deal breaker. I would like about 25 metres too, maybe 30. Our last hose was thirty metres but became a pain to wind in when you had 20 metres of it on the reel. Lasted about twelve years though so good value. Was Hozelock but I see these window cleaning types with incredibly long hoses, I do suspect they are small bore though as they are washing windows, not watering the lawn.

Hozelock do a nice 25m, on a drum.
The drum can be supplied in "Free standing", wall mounted.
I have the wall mounted one.

The hose it self has lasted a long time (15 years). The only issue I have had with my wall drum was a cover going A.W.O.L. many years ago.

I would suggest buy a "Hose Guide" to allow the hose the be round back on and off the drum with out making a snakes wedding.

Draw back with the Hozelock attachments. They do suffer from UV damaged after a few years. But now most modern hose fittings are interchangeable.

got a hose lock green wall mount version had it 20 year was £45 when i bought it but lasted well ive been lucky where its places in both houses its placed out of direct sun 25 mtr aprox

edit buy the yellow version pipe its nice and thick and does not kink

Cant comment on the reel but can highly recommend Tricoflex hose, its stays flexible even when cold unlike the cheaper plastic hoses that are used to advertise Viagra.

I’ve got the yellow stuff made by Karcher. Wall mounted reel system.

Had it for about 10 years and it’s had a real tough time. The UV resistance is superb (it spent 3 years outside in the Middle East which normally destroys most things) and it’s usually nice and flexible except below about 8 degC which isn’t normally a problem since I don’t use much on ‘cold’ days.

Good advice from TYA concerning the hose guide - I keep meaning to get one but still haven’t got round to it yet.....

I await more info, as we need new too.....but I want and anti twist and tangle/ kink one, as my Mrs seems to perform oragarmi with ours even though its on a reel, watering her veggie garden

Seems like the hozelock yellow stuff is the Tricoflex hose as recommended by @8ob so I have gone with that. Having had a floor standing reel which was a bit of a pain I have gone for the wall mounted option this time.

I bought some Karcher non kink hose a year or so ago, guess what, it kinks terribly!

Just looking for one for the MIL, coincidentally. Not to be crass but at 93, longevity is not at the top of the criteria but ease of use is.
Auto retract is about £90, a bit dear and if my auto retracting mains extension is to go by, a potential death trap.

We have this, also used these at the workshops. So far so good had them about 5 years now. Do seem to resist kinking but are quite bulky when rolled up.

+1 for Tricoflex but make sure it is genuine I bought a 'bargain' at the Great Dorset Steam Fair it was not Tricoflex just looked the same, lesson learnt.

Got a hoselock grey drum wall mounted and self retracting. Good but of kit but expensive if I remember correctly.

+1. I've got the 20m and 30 models. had both a few years and work flawlessly. Wouldn't buy anything else.

last 6 months if left outside, and if you need all the length, as soon as you pull the trigger, the pressure drops and suddenly you are too short! absolute rubbish is an understatement.

Bought this one very recently, mounted on the wall, does the job nicely. Comes with all the quick release fittings you need, and the aqua lock one works well on the end of the hose.
