Anyone remember a month ago I was on the hunt for benchtop DMMs, anything that said Keithley or Fluke on it really...


Well the novelty wore off and I found another expensive new hobby.


That's the parcel UPS couldn't be bothered to collect on Friday, despite which it still arrived on the expected date so I can't be too annoyed.

Sony a6300, Zoom H1 recorder, a small LED panel, and a smallrig cage (Makes you can look more indie ).
I've wanted a proper camera for years, my housemates have started a quarantine vlog so it was a nice excuse to get a kit with a bit of video gear. I might try to set it up for video meetings too, my laptop webcam is awful. Just need to figure out how to use it now. And buy a tripod. And some more lenses. And some...

You are quite welcome. I had something delivered today. Negotiated it months ago but then the paperwork, then the lockdown and so on. Anyhow, Husqvarna manufactured Browning in 9mm Browning. Scandinavian Military issue from 1915:

Well, that could take a book or two. You can have them, but you need a very good reason, you need to be a member of a Heritage Pistol Club, you need a LOT of paperwork and there are lots of restrictions on movement. This is pre 1919, in a calibre not readily available, fits in with my collection of John Browning pistols and I will really be in the Doo Doo if I even think of shooting it so I make sure I have no ammunition for it because I keep it at home. My other pistols that I do shoot need to remain at the heritage centre. IF i wanted to shoot this I would need to send my certificate in get it converted to section 7.3), get it to the Heritage centre (where it needs to stay while it is S7.3 then if I want it back home, send the paperwork back in (£20 a time too!) get it on S7.1 then get it to my house...... Can you see why not many get involved in this.

Having said all of that, you can readily buy pistols, well revolvers actually, (Semi-Autos are very, very rare and really expensive) that are in what we call an "obsolete calibre" ie a calibre that is unobtainable ammunition.

THe John Browning design is timeless, a design that really is quite old. I have a 1903 this is a 1907 and I have a 1911. Looking for a 1908 now in good condition. THEN i will start to look for some of the "in betweeners". I also nee a 9mm Browning Parabellum but I will wait for the right one to come up. Its a patience game.

Don't worry, some of the people I meet who hold S7 pistols (handguns really) don't know much about it either, it is a real minefield and has to be the easiest way to get yourself arrested after the ownership of a motor vehicle. My interest is John Moses Browning pistols and first World War handguns. Everything I have was military issue at some point. I will put a pic of one of my Webley's up and every part is stamped with the broadarrow, including the springs. The Military really made a point of marking their property.

Truly a timeless design. I'm not into guns at all but if I had that I would want to shoot it.

There's some lovely stuff in there. Loads that I left, but some big lumps of metal heading in this direction in a week or so.

It's a shame when you have to receive stuff because of someone dying, but receiving good stuff takes the edge off it. At least it's going where it'll get used.

I didn't but I can use them on one that I have already. I would have loved so much more but I just do not have the room. There's a lovely Union grinder, 10" or 12" but just too heavy to move through my house, even dismantled. I had to leave a nice Q&S saw, several fly presses, Record and Parkinson vices. Too much to list. I felt very strange yesterday, I suppose being confronted with my own mortality since he was only 5 years older than me. My neighbour was more philosophical and said much the same as you. Life goes on, doesn't it? Until it stops

There's a J&S 540 and a 310 T&C grinder with just about all of the rare attachments that you could imagine. I'll have to try to work out a value and pass that on to his executor.

It is, but if you knew the guy. Every time I use something that was handed down to me I remember that person.
I was cutting Stuco last night with a pair of Gilbow tin snips. They were my grandads he died in 1974. Sends me back to 9yrs old peering up at all the tools in his shed

I use a miroku at clays , a copy of JMB s original design , sure is a truly tested design ,I also have a genuine b25 but dont tend to use that as often as the miroku.

I won a "Joblot of cokin filter adaptor rings" the other day, expecting them to be what I need to not be picky about thread sizes buying used ND filters, I could just look for big ones and adapt them down to whatever lens I've got (Everyone knows big front elements look cooler ). A Chinese set is about a tenner, I was happy paying twice that for branded, non-Chinese ones.

They arrived today, it turns out only six of them are what I wanted, one has a male thread both sides* and the other thirty five have a male thread one side and a large flat surface on the other. It seems it's for a Cokin filter system where you clip a holder to the ring and fit big rectangular filters into the holders, popular with landscape photographers apparently. I wonder if there's enough meat in them to machine them into what I was after. I shall probably just resell them.

*It looks like an 42x1mm thread on one side, possibly for putting lenses backwards on M42 cameras for macro photography?

Oh, and none of them fit the silly little 40.5mm filter thread on my Sony kit lens.

It's not all bad news though, I got this little articulating arm;

Little but very heavy and rock solid. It's supposed to be for mounting an external monitor (Or any camera accessory I suppose) but I want it for holding a dial indicator on my lathe.
