well finally got round to doing it after 6 years of humming and haring /namely for not a lot of room and wires weren't very long .started at 8 am and it took till 1pm to get it fitted all seemed well apart from garage that needs sorting that's another day then turned on the landing light and trip the only part of the house I never rewired was upstairs lights and guess what a borrowed neutral should have realy known because the guy before me was an electrician or supposed to have been . ran another neutral up in cupboard up some trunking already there and separated the circuits now all is left is the bond under the sink . I did run it over the new kitchen when it was fitted but never connected it gonna have to dig a few boards up to find it . not the end of the world though the box is quite tidy but some cables had to be stretched otherwise it would have been perfect still acceptable and all cables are in correct order the 10mm ones were a pig and the mains tails to fit one for the shower and other for the garage

ummmm yea cut the seals off though 2 much hassle to do it live the good old days are long past the meter will show its been disconnected but balls to it the smart meter wont work anyhow we changed supplier and its not universal

That's a nice neat job in a very tight spot! Any reason for going twin RCD over RCBO's?
Typical neutral borrowing, I come across it more often than I would like to, before the lockdown I was working in a 5 story townhouse and that had borrowed neutrals over all the floors lighting and some borrowed lives too which made safe isolation interesting that's for sure!

rcbo s are nice should realy have put one on the garage supply separate or I would have just put the garage on its own with an mcb as its getting a new db in garage with rcd main switch .now the regs have changed its put paid to just having an mcb feed it because the cables are sunk in the wall both ends of house less than 15mm depth unprotected so in the spirit of it through the rcd its not a problem as ive put it on the same rcd as upstairs sockets so our lass wont complain if I do owt and wont stop her watching the crap on tv without interruptions

ty had the generator going 2day as well I cut all the wiring out then realised I needed the slitting disk in angle grinder to cut the back out of the db dug it out and it started second pull it hasn't been run in 9 month . best top keep them running now and then

I helped a sparky friend change the board at my nans house, he was going to do it live but said they should have put an isolator in when they fitted the meter recently. I rang them up and they came out the next day and fitted one. Think I just got lucky...

I think they always now fit isolators after the meter for safety reasons. Our house has one. No reason why they shouldn't always have been fitted IMO, just risks people working live.

to be honest it wouldn't have got done if this virus hadn't happened .either I wouldn't have the time or inclination to do it .finish the bonding of tomorrow and fit a new db in garage as the one in is diabolical il take a picture of it its bad

hi for f2 stock car racing did it for about 3 years. very expensive and time consuming though the car had to be right to be competitive otherwise you wouldn't get anywhere

Yes i would happily go with stroma, but find more and more customers expect to see nic, when will they buy nappit and stroma and get what theyve always wanted i wonder

Not everyone agrees with me but when all this part P started I always said they should be like the gas lot, one name, one body, avoids confusion.

My boss was NIC registered contractor but in fairness they weren't great, it always seemed about getting the dollar from their members. Saw some pretty bad stuff by NIC approved sparks. One particular job the customer called us in to check a CU they'd just had fitted by a domestic installer, they weren't happy with the guy that installed it and didn't trust his work, took the cover off and it was terrible, to the extent of being dangerous and any conscientious organisation wouldn't want to be associated with work like that. We photographed it and reported it to the NIC, by all accounts not a great deal happened and his van was still rolling round town with the NIC badges all over it months later
