Buying steel stock

Where is the best place to order steel stock that will deliver to my house I’ve got some projects on but nowhere to get steel from as I normally get it through work and we are closed for the for seeable

Metal supermarket has a place in Leeds, Minimum order for free delivery is £100

Have you tried barrett steel ltd there are a big company with deports all over the UK. You can set up a cash account with them and they deliver.
They are fully operational as I ordered from them today

I think so, I got a delivery just into the lockdown, the delivery charge wasn't bad on the few bits I wanted, worth calling them to find out when they'll be passing as they appear to schedule all the drops in an area together and if there's nobody to sign you have to wait for their next run (guess who was out).

Twigg of Matlock are open, I know they deliver to Sheffield, if they deliver to Barnsley is another matter, worth an internet search and phone call..

I ordered £60 of bits from F H Brundle a couple of weeks ago - was here around 3 or 4 days later

Used Barrett steel in the past & all I can say is they were average

Aluminium warehouse is another one but im not sure if they are operating or not at the moment.

Another vote for Brundles! They have really good prices and delivery is quick. Normally if I order by, say, 3pm the steel will arrive early the following morning.
Free delivery over £150 but only £10 if under.
I've had two deliveries since lockdown.

I like to keep up to date on who is best, so prompted by the question, I did do a quick price check on various suppliers.
I compared the price of a 6m length of 30mmX30mmX3mm mild steel angle iron (grade s275). Prices are ex VAT.

FH Brundle £8.90
Parker Steel £18.43
The Metal Store £21.90
Metals4U £30.66
Aluminium Warehouse £64.76 (Don't list 30mm, so this is for 25mm!)

Barretts don't publish prices.

If anyone spots any mistake in the list or can add others please let me know.

It's an economy of scale, Brundles can afford to sell it that cheap because they're expecting most customers to buy hundreds of kg of steel at a time and will deliver in their own lorrys, places like Metals4U are for hobbyists who only need a meter or so of a several smaller sections and they'll package and post it using normal couriers. If you go on Parker and add 50 lengths to your basket, the price per length will get halved.
