Anyone know of a pattern version of this caliper, or have an old one sat on a knackered machine I could exchange for beer tokens?

after building a disc handbrake conversions for my truck, not paying x-eng prices, nor jcb oem prices!

The mechanism off an xj Jag rear would do the same job, its a simple gadget thats bolted to a normal caliper, just needs a bracket made and attach a cable.

Cheap as I can get it I’ve found a Wilwood spot caliper , bit more reasonable than the jcb callipers and similar

Honda did a few on smaller bikes, 70's and 80's though and I cannot think of any other manufacturer.

Yes, as it stands the handbrake drum is about 5mm away from the body xmember, I want to give it a bit more clearance.

@Wallace, I could have a look at the golf caliper, if it’s the same as on the skoda fabia I seem to recall they’re reasonably small

Silly thought because I can't remember exactly how wide they are but is there no chance of simply fitting smaller shoes to the existing setup and then turning down the casing? From memory it's a few inches wide and most of that is because of the width of the pads rather than anything else.

I mean if you wanted to do it cheaply... Take a grinder to the shoes and if they're centrally fixed pivoting just cut off the outer edge and be done with it. No faffing with relocating the adjusting bits and so on.


If you want a sacrificial one to play with I've got a P38 one which looks fairly similar dimensionally to my Defender. Interestingly the one on the Sandringham is 4" deep as well but only 8" as opposed to 10" in diameter. That wouldn't give you the clearance you need?
