Has anyone used one of this type of vinyl gate closer from Brundle - I am wondering whether they have some form of damping mechanism or does the gate just wang shut? It says 'smooth bind free closure' in the description, which suggested some form of damping to me?
At the moment I have an 'offset inwards' lower hinge on our front gate so that it closes under its own weight, but then it clanks against the gatepost and bounces a couple of times before coming to rest. Either we need something to 'catch' the gate or some form of damped closer. I don't really want a proper gate catch as I don't want the postie dropping our parcels when he is fiddling with the gate catch - I want something which just pushes open.
If we go for the vinyl option, which is just bolt on, the next problem will be securing it so no-one can make off with the gate.
Since I am not backpacking the Southwest Coastpath, as was originally planned for the next three weeks, I might as well be making a new gate, even if it has only been on the list for 15 years or so!
