Faulty limit switch!

Traced a fault back to a limit switch which should be normally closed. This one was permanently closed as it was full of dubious looking 'water'.

It is made by Burgess from Gateshead. Not trading over here now. For one reason and another i need to keep the same switch, at least the same body. There are some new old stock ones on ebay but they are different styles/functions. The micro switch inside does action, but is goosed. It has 'GV3' printed on it. I can get it working again by just changing the microswitch.

Two questions - can you take microswitches apart to repair/clean the terminals?
Can i buy a direct microswitch replacement - are they a standard size? Then i can just change the internals.

Usually standard size for micro switches may have to change to push on fitting but would expect screw terminals may be available

That microswitch looks very similar to a omron microswitch used on motorcycle brake light switches.

Have a look on rs or cpc and will be able to get one of those similar enough to fit in the outer casing.

For microswitches, old microwaves! 3 to 5 in each one, and they are all very much the same dimensions and fixing as the old Burgess models!

Even if that one is not the correct dimensions, note 'pin plunger' as important words to help find one.

They are standard size. Only differences are 2 or 3 pin (3 pin will do the job of a 2 pin) current rating and if it has a lever ( this can be removed to make it a non lever type)

I'm at home for the next err few days....weeks..years....decades??????

Thanks for the kind offers, I've carefully drilled out the rivet, taken it apart, cleaned the terminals and superglued it back together and it works! All happily back together now.

Maybe think how it became gummed up originally and see if you can seal it, shield it or roof it to deflect the undesirable stuff.
