16amp fuse instead of 13 in a plug.

Hi. I'm new to welding and only realised that the Sip t166 is 3 phase and I was just wondering if it is possible to place a 16 amp fuse in a standard plug instead of installing the blue sockets?? Thanks in advance

I'm pretty sure its single phase not 3 phase.

No, you cant install a 16a fuse in a 13a plug.
Not least because I dont think you can get 16a fuses that size and if you could the socket would catch fire.

You can use the welder on a normal 13a plug with a 13a fuse. You might find the fuse blows if you turn the welder up to fill power.
If that happens you would need to have a blue socket installed for it and fit a blue plug to the welder.
Or just replace the fuse with another 13a one and turn the welder down a bit.

3 phase will be marked on the machine.

16a fuse are bigger than a standard 3 pin fuse, so no way.

The blue plug is for 240v, not 3 phase.

Throw a picture up of the welder and I am sure a member will be along soon to advise in details.

The biggest fuse you can buy that will fit in a standard 3 pin plug is 13A.
That machine is single phase.

The On line ones sometimes come with a 10amp fuse.
A lot were pulled by Trading Standards as not being To BS regulations.

They sent out a form to all PAT testers, to check the fuse.
If the plug was sealed. Fail it.

I bet the trip will let go first.

I don't know, you will need a Sparky for that advice.

I had mine put in by a sparky as a pay back for a favour.

To get you going just put a 13 amp plug on it for the moment - I reckon you would get pretty close to full power out of that, a 13 amp fuse will take more than 13 amps for a good period of time before it blows. To fit a 16 amp socket you would need to get your garage wiring checked out by an electrician to make sure it’s suitable - but I bet it will run fine from a standard plug.

They used to do a 16a to 13a adapter.

I have one.
The paper work was very clear it was to supply 13amp equipment.
