Used FC to etch solid copper head gasket used inhibiting paint round stud, water ways & cylinder, worked well, reason 2 central cyl were tighter than an over bored A Series

Do you mean you slightly thinned the gasket in the areas away from critical contact points? Interesting idea. Any further info such a what 'resist' you used and how much material came away? Thanks

My solution to a similar problem, the push buttons on the mill don't work, someone tried to convert it to single phase, I will sort it out properly when I get it down to my shed from it's current location in the attached garage,

That made me laugh out loud when i realised what I was looking at

Made up this today so I don't have to reach to the back of my welder to switch it on and off. It's held on by the cable tie so if it gets bumped or caught in anything it'll come off rather than break the switch.

there are no problems, only solutions, that fix was temporary, around 5 years ago, will be moving the mill, student and surface grinder to the shed as soon as I can get help...……… maybe October!

Had to move some rubble around the garden but found a puncture in the wheelbarrow inner tube so hunted around for something to patch it up with. A bit of heatshrink has sorted it! Also had to line the inside of the tyre with foil tape as I could see through it most of the way round!

It needed it. I tend to let it get into a terrible mess and then blitz tidying it, then let it get into a terrible mess again. I've never quite mastered keeping it tidy as I work. Not one of the character traits I'm most proud of, but there we are.

Been there, done that.

Then found the puncture kit.
Then when putting it away I found a spare wheel and tire.

This afternoon I finished making the tapping stand:

including four pitch adaptors (0.5, 0.7, 0.8 and 1.0 mm) and four tap holders (3.5 mm diameter, 4 mm diameter, 4.5 mm diameter and 6 mm diameter). Between that lot it covers most of my M3, M4, M5 and M6 taps. It's a neat design (by Harold Hall) with tap diameter and pitch separated: the 4.5 mm diameter and 4.5 mm diameter tap holders are both used for a couple of M4 taps I've got whereas the 6 mm diameter holder fits both M5 and M6. Since the down-feed mechanism is separate to the diameter mechanism, I don't have to make multiple holders for different diameter M4 taps and if I ever need an M8×1 thread cut, I only have to make a new tap holder as the pitch is already covered.

Today I finished the Myford cabinet door I posted about. Far from perfect but it'll do the job intended - after all nobody's coming to admire it. Colour isn't matching but pretty close in the u/coat - I can always paint the outside later if I decide otherwise.....tartan, anyone?





I also tried the hole drill I bought to see if it could act as a fly-cutter, man, it's LOUD!! I'll need to 'experiment' a bit but it appears to cut - very small passes needed I think, otherwise things would get very hot, very quickly. An interesting trial - maybe it has too many cutting edges to be taking material off horizontally? The spindle speed probably needs addressing too - what does the Collective reckon would be best? I'm just playing with things here, so might have the settings wrong.

I bet you were going too fast, said he looking in the Noddy book of milling and not seeing any speeds for anything that big but trying to extrapolate looks like a couple of hundred RPM in mild steel ? Best listen to someone who knows what they are talking about, and that is not me.

@Pete. will be able to advise you on this. I think he often uses Rotabroach style cutters on his mill.
