So, what do I do with a dead Wet and dry grinder. When the wet side is dead?
But Mr SIP man sends you a new machine?
I went for a rummage and found this.
So, we strip it down to have a gander to see if it would be suitable.
The Metal worm drive gear was fitted with some sort of Locktite and a Roll Pin.
The pin, in the end was a pain to remove. I had to adapt a bolt to drift it out.
Bit of drilling, bit of drilling, a bit off tapping. A lot of coffee.
We have another polishing machine.
One more job left, food was shouting at me.
Cut down one grub screw.
Simplz.

The Grinder shaft was 15.89mm O/D.
The Mop adapter had an 14mmI/D.
The closest drill I had would drill the hole. But the Grinder end was very hard. A Rotary Grindstone was used to remove the metal. That allowed the drill to be used.
I had to tap out the retaining screws to M6. For the simple reason I could not locate the M5 grub screws.
I nice job to wind down on.

An Old Engineer has passed on. I will miss our talks over Skype, as his daughter translates for us.
Today was another "No Power Tools Day."
So what to do?
Have fun.
Raid the kitchen.
Safety goggles, salt, cling film, vinegar, flour.
Mix well and apply/mould.
Seal and leave to marinade for about 4 hours, more if needed.
When that is going on start another project.
This was a "distance learning" project with a MIS, via video link.
Over night in Citric acid.
To remove the crud. They were doing a small 6" hand vice.
Then using, wire brushes, wire wool, emery cloth.
This is what I achieved.
But now it is time to return to project No1.
Un wrap, and wash.
Dry well and inspect the chemical reaction between crud and metal.
I did wash and polish with a Scotch Brite pad.
Not bad?

We were restoring 2 Turnscrews, no power tools and what tools were common to both places.
Mine, as I got them.
I got them because I knew they needed work. Plus MIS over sea had similar.
Tis has been in planning for 12 weeks.
Worn tips.
But hard steel. So a file was not a choice we had. Nor was heat.
So with Wet stones new tip was worked onto the steel.
Much coffee and I learnt a few words.
Meths, wire wool and a cabinet scraper.
Yes I showed how to raise a burr on one of them.
Sadly one of mine had worm. But I cooked them in the microwave.
Coffee and Linseed oil stain, with a wax filler.
All done.
A fun session, with some other Mad MIS people.

A mad rush to the head.
I watched a friend use an adapted Adze to clear weeds.
I have an adze, but for my mad idea it would be to big.
This build has no other use than to keep what's left of my sanity going.
Take a dead handle and mount into a vice, drink coffee.
Shape, you can see the hand tools just above it.
Drink a coffee. Use the green hand sanitizer.
Shape the hole to suit the bit off steel you have to hand. Drink a coffee and tidy up the scrap bin.
Hand file, drink coffee and shape into a chisel bit.
Now, to harden the steel.
Heat the whole lot up to a cherry red, then quench in oil.
Here you can see me re heating the tip to dip into charcoal powder to add an layer of carbon hard steel.
It was then polished, after coffee and tempered to a light blue colour.
The paraffin torch went pffffts, so I had another coffee.
Make a wedge and add a strap to the handle.
2 rivets, made from a mug of coffee and 5.5 mm bar were fitted and a ball pein used to flatten and tighten.
The blade I made, with a coffee was used to scrape the dirt off the handle. Before I fitted the strap.
Drink a coffee as the stain dries, this was shop brought stain. Over the coffee the different woods took the stain in different manner.
Assemble, yes, sips a coffee, this is correct.
In use the force will secure the blade very well.
But in this shot the blade needs the be turned, so the bevel faces you.
I saw that and went for a coffee.

No it is not perfect.
The blade needs a better edge, the angles are to steep. for tis kind of operation.
I used 25 and 30deg. They need to be at least 15 and 20 deg.
Plus it needs to be a bit keener.
But as prove of concept, it works.
Coffee time.

I finally got around to insulating a storage shipping container , had the back ten foot done a couple years back , now the front halfs done, just need to do the doors some time. it went better than expected.

The ladies in our village have been making colourful Pom poms and hanging them on one of the trees to make it brighten the place up and as a thank you to the couple of nurses that live here. I said I can’t make a Pom Pom, it needs to be something a bit more manly. So knocked this up.
