Eyesight Problems

I don't need glasses just some longer arms In the shed I have some 1.5 reading glasses from the local shop for a couple of pounds and they work well for close up work. They are small lenses so I can look over the top of them for walking about.

Anybody tried any of these or these safety specs with built in magnifiers, effectively cheap bifocals?

I had laser surgery for short sight about 10 years ago, absolutely brilliant but now I've succumbed to old man's near sight, effectively your muscles are too weak to squeeze your balls (eye balls) or rather the lens any more when focussing close up.

Opticians safety specs may be overkill in the workshop as I lose, sit on or otherwise destroy glasses at a ferocious rate, I have been buying the pound shop glasses but the bridge pieces bend in no time so was looking for a sturdier but still cheap solution. I will go check out what I can get from the optician as £12.50 including postage is not that cheap but thought I would see if anybody has tried them yet.

If its for welding I recently came across some replacement welding mask screens with built in magnification if that's any help to you?

No its for general workshop use, my eyesight isn't too bad that I need it for everything - yet.

Its not specifically for safety I just want some tough reading specs with built in rubber nose guard, a bit more durable then the pound shop items. I would still use a full face mask for anything to do with grinding or drilling etc.

I will probably need the cheat screens for the MIG eventually, seem to be OK at the moment.

They do for a quid, I buy them 10 at a time and leave them around the house

But but they are a bit flimsy for the workshop and I really need bifocal, only need glasses for close up so I was wondering it anybody had tried these safety specs with bifocal so I don't have to keep taking them off all the time and hopefully can handle a bit more hammer, the nose pad on my third workshop pair fell off this morning.....

I use varifocal under my safety specs but still have a habit of getting close and looking over the top of the glasses.

I bought a cheap pair of glasses from China (10 yoyos) but had the prescription set at 2 points under my normal glasses.

I now have a focal length of about 30 cm which works for me.
