Plaster board fixings (Metal project related)

I was working at an old guys house once and had the apprentice put a small chandelier up while I was doing another one. all of a sudden I heard a crash went through and it was on the floor .aw ffs whats happened. the old guy said dell boys just dropped the chandelier on the floor didn't know whether to laugh or cry fortunately none of it bust

might be to late 4 u now....but I try and plan ahead and screw+ gripfill 3/4 shuttering board behind the plasterboard for fixing cupboards, hidden cisterns etc.....

Yep I did this right through my barn conversions, as its a framed out old building, 19mm ply behind anywhere that needs anything fixed, curtain rails, sinks, toilets, kitchen wall units. Will save untold grief.

Best Ive used were from home base, bit like the tool station exampanding sleeves above, except there is like a gadjet to expand them tight before screwing them up. Never seen them since, and Ive used all the useful sizes up.

Can you not take floor up above, put hole where you want then fit timber between joists where needed?

Some form of concealed timber pattressing between the joists really would be the best solution if you can't get all your main fixings into joists, or maybe a concealed metal hanger fixed back to the joists. A well installed plasterboard ceiling can only carry about 30 kg/m2 - a ceiling of unknown provenance possibly considerably less.

Another alternative might be to make some kind of an enlarged 'ceiling rose' for your fixture that allows you to bridge across between joist fixings.

If you can't find a joist or get above to build in support.
They will have to be long ones though to go through 2 layers of board before they expand and keep the holes tight.

if you cant get access to install bits of wood then dont trust plasterboard screws to hold it in place

if you need to batten between the beams or as quoted a must fasten to beams by steel eye bolts

your risk not mine and if i was in that scenario of a customer id refuse to put it up

not worth getting a bad name for a customer that wont listen but demands there own way all because it looks nice
