I don't shop in Aldi anymore after the store manager did this to me.
Left the trolley and went to Morrison's for better service that day.

It must be you, the assistants in our Aldi couldn't be any more polite and pleasant and always open up more tills when they get busy. We were in there once when someone was complaining because there was no-one there to stack their trolley but if you expect that you are in the wrong shop. Order online from Tesco or Ocado and you won't have to deal with any assistants or queues.

I avoid most Coffee shops, Only really use Gregg's as they seem good value for money incomparison

Doesn't help that the exchange rate is poor that's made imports dearer and we practically rely on imports with everything.

I'll start the ball rolling: onions. Someone needs to produce decent onions. Once upon a time you couldn't cut an onion open without crying your eyes out, now you can eat them raw and they taste of nothing.

I used to run a mobile chippy in the 80s...

I think I've related this before on here, but I was talking to a guy who'd managed to buy one of the food van/stall concessions at a major 'festival', may have been Glastonbury, I don't remember.
Anyway, they stayed open for the entire 4-day gig, roping in family members and a couple of mates to feed those with the munchies at daft o'clock.
By the Sunday they were running low on stock so they bunged a cash'n'carry manager a wad to bring them more turd-burgers and kept on going.
I forget whether it was the takings or the profits that were £90,000 for the long weekend, but either way they did all right out of it

Further back in time, early 1970s, a neighbour of ours (Mr. Fenwick, in case any old Stocktonians read this) used to run a hot-dog van that he'd park up near the Town Hall in the local High Street on Friday and Saturday evenings (not much happened the rest of the week!). I forget what it was, maybe a Commer, but big enough to stand up in while being small enough to get up a driveway... eventually the old guy got so doddery he couldn't drive it any more so my old man used to run him down at teatime and go back at midnight - by way of payment, for a couple of years our Friday tea was hot-dogs
My mother is, to this day and unusually for someone born in the War and growing up with rationing, one of the fussiest eaters going and can't stand onions, so when old Mr. Fenwick of the hot-dogs got ill, the fatha volunteered to stand in for him... which meant boiling up a load of onions before taking the van down the town.
The old dear still rants about how long it took to get the smell of onions out of the house

...and cost-engineering. The first auto washer I had was a 2nd-hand Bendix with a motor made by Skoda; I could hardly pick the motor up, it was that heavy. Took two of us to get the machine in the house.
Now I have an Indesit that walks around the kitchen, dents with thumb pressure and the motor looks like it was lifted from a Hornby train

One of the guys I work with was on a job in Berwick-Upon-Tweed which, being on the border, is a bit like the Wild West ... anyway, one lunchtime Mr. T. (as he's known, not because he's black, hung with gold or afraid of flying but you certainly wouldn't want to go three rounds with him - oh, and his surname begins with a T) and the guys went to the local chippie. Mr. T, not fancying a fish, asked if they had any pies.
"Aye, wiv goat pies heeyah", spake the codfather. "D'ye wannit warmin'up?"
"Oh I say, yes please", orated Mr. T.
So the guy behind the counter tossed the pie in the deep fat frier...
Mr. T. decided he wasn't hungry.

look at any economic model (and because I'm sad I study quite a bit of this) just about everything in real terms is cheaper, You also need to use an inflation index and take interest rates into consideration, but if you were to put a flag some ware in the 1970s just about every food item that you buy would be 50% cheaper most more.

There however one major thing that has bucked the trend house prices, which have risen 100x more against other items in the 1970s, so if a chicken had been a house it would now cost you north of £50 instead of a fiver.

Economically the best thing you can do is pay back borrowing, or avoid renting either, even with interest rates being low a mortgage will keep you poor, rent and its even worse, lose that burden and even a mediocre wage will give plenty to live on.

I would blame that price rise on the increase in demand for home grown products. If pipes became more popular the demand and price would most likely drop. Fedoras might make a comeback too.

Very true, interest rates being historically low also bothers me. There will be a lot of unhappy bunnies out there when interest rates normalise, way too many folk have cut the cloth and are in for a rude awakening.

Went to see a mate yesterday, his daughter is looking to buy her first house, she has an inheritance of 40k to put down. Great I said, her mortgage should be low. How much is the house? £325,000 WHAT.

If the government wanted to help uk manufacturing, im sure they would rather find a trade deal somewhere cheaper than the EU after all that is partly why we joined the EU in the first place
