Slightly off topic.
Getting the sack apparently comes from being given a Hessian sack to carry your tools in when your services were no longer required.
Tramp as in to walk/March to the next possible employment with your possessions in your sack.

Sadly no, just professional beggars unfortunately

They are all in a special built tramp center that awards them 3 meals a day and a psychiatrist for mental health because they wont cry and don't feel the cold

we had one living in a tent in the forest in our village, Ivor, he used to sit on a seat on the village green and read the papers, or get a bus into Epping and go to the library, his arthritis got so bad he had to be housed by the local authority, he was not that poor, just did not like most people, used to be a deep sea diver by all accounts,

there was some in a house I did a callout at dirty sods it was crushed on the carpets . they wanted other jobs doing but I told the firm I wernt going back

I had a tramp knock on my door one Sunday morning about thirty years ago, I big well built chap, Navy blue overcoat covered in straw, Said he had slept in the local farmers barn, "Can you give ma a bottle of tea mister" Anyway I brought him in and all he would have was a couple of boiled eggs and a mug of tea, My missus was hiding upstairs, not daring to come down,, That was his only appearance, Never ever saw him again, As he was leaving he wanted to know if I had any boots that would fit him, Sadly not, Size twelve,

A very small bloke in our village used to collect white dog turds, said they were valuable cos the were used to dye light coloured corduroy trousers, something I've wondered about ever since...

our stuck up locals weren't too happy him sat there on the front of the house drinking tea out of a jam jar they were even less happy when they complained about noise doing my house up I said to a bloke opposite I know tell em if they whinge il let the local travellers put there caravans on my land and get some geese as well that sharp shut them up

We had a spate of professional beggars who would had a rosta as to who should be where. This was only known as it would kick off when one was at the wrong place.
Sad as it means the honest down and outs get ignored, when really they need help to rejoin society.
