Interesting method of winching

Handy in an emergency. Use rope that doesn’t stretch. I have a 200m rope for extraction, it’s terrible. It’ll stretch 40m easily.

Uuurg, the knot he used on the load (car) will need a knife to remove.
A round turn and 2 half hitches would have been a much better choice (ideally with a D shackle as the sharp edge on that hole will not do his rope any favours either) as he would have been able to undo it under load if it all went pear shaped. Even a bowline would have been a better choice as he could undo it afterwards.

Granma/egg sucking alert, to those who are aware of it, but.. if that rope parts it can take off limbs because off the stored energy. Stretchy rope is for specific jobs like e.g. anchor snubbers, mountain climbing etc not hauling 4x4's or towing vessels.

It was sold to us as caving rope, static, but it’s not. We’re getting the proper rope, next time round. The dealer has promised! Always found when rope like we use breaks under strain it doesn’t do very much apart from lying on the ground. Wire rope is a different beastie all together, it is nasty if it breaks. Used to work forestry winches, wire ropes don’t last particularly long due to the work they do. So break pretty regularly. I cringe when i see people walking in the bite of a rope, very dangerous.
