and in their with it were thease

as well as 2 shipping containers of fixings and other powertools

Where my wife works (small precision engineering place) I talk to the MD quite a bit and he has had to scrap several very large machines cos he couldn't give them away. Criminal really. Sadly the smaller stuff that I would take just seems to fly out of the door at good prices.

i said i would buy the box pan folder for good money and pick it up when ever suited them but its all tagged and going to landfill, i did hear theirs a couple pallets of welders too

I got news of a 50t press going from a
University, they had bent one pf the pins attempting to compress something and then broke the winch lifting the bed.


They were not allowed to sell it as it had failed an inspection, no amount of bartering was going to work, I was willing to pay more than reasonable money, nope no chance got to be binned.

Hmmmm change of tack required, I put in an offer to dispose of said dangerous item and would only charge 50quid to remove and dispose of it safely.

Yup over the moon with that, they paid me to take it away, wtf, this is a university where clever people work apparently.

It's Errr still in temporary storage awaiting disposal, cough cough.

surely getting a scrappy to export it to india or china would be more cost effective. Or are they now wanting steel any longer?

Liability plays a large part in these situations. Suppose they sold/gave it to you and someone was killed or injured using it subsequently - guess where the litigation buck would stop.....

That's the excuse they use where I work, cutting discs just out of date,in the skip. Chemicals like cans of WD40 and similar binned because of a broken lid, they would rather pay for a firm to take it away rather than offer it to the staff. Depressing.

its the "myth" that causes it: not neccessarily the reality.

I saw two similar ones last month, going into a scrap yard, on the back of a truck.

watched a programme on u tube about a steel works in china the manager was well hissed off that he couldn't get enough quality scrap steel . he showed an old gas heating boiler casing with bits of wire and ally on it and said its worthless putting it in the furnace contaminating the melt

That is criminal. I wonder if the MD or share holders are actually aware that there are people willing to pay good money for this stuff?

My mate was given this by his boss last week as they were getting rid of it and if he didn't want it it would be scrapped

In perfect working order and there's a genuine Bridgeport tool cabinet full of tooling to go with it still to come!

The legal stuff saddens me, everyone's afraid of anything coming back at them. Those that go to scrap, did no-one think to say "That's worth money to someone".... this is what happened with a lever notcher thingy where I work, sold it to Stevie on here (can't rememeber his username, you all know who I mean) and got my boss a little money in his pocket of which I got a cut, everyone wins! How can people not see this?


That guilly in the OP would have gone lovely in our workshop, replacing the old "clutch and roll-cam thing we have now"

Have a few of these had to find one of these.
Second hand with instruction manual loads of collets new stones etc, they did not have a fork lift it is heavy there was no discussion regarding liability if we lost fingers

It’s the majority that spoil it for the minority. We are at fault here!!

there are far too many Lenny lawsuits out there taking the advantage of a claim at any opportunity possible.

“There was no clear sign telling me not to stick my fingers in that hole with that sharp moving part so it’s your fault”.

“Your dog bit me when I trespassed on your property so it’s your fault”

“I had the squits last night after a burning hot ruby but I’m gonna claim it’s that dodgy coffee out the machine at work”

people try anything to get something so who can blame companies for slinging rather than selling. Whether there is or isn’t legal action that can be taken after a sold as seen sale I really don’t know but I do know the claim busters will certainly try if they see an opening and companies don’t want the grief.
