There a few linux softwares progs that'll do it,but as others have said you need some real horsepower in that box of yours

Cheers dude, I’m a bit overwhelmed really as I don’t “do” computers. I’ve checked my laptop and that’s i7 but then don’t understand the rest of the stuff.

So I did the sensible thing, gave up and rearranged the office

Another vote for DaVinci. It will do everything you need and the company are only interested in hardware sales so the software is free. Ordinarily that level of software should cost thousands. Well worth the effort of upgrading your PC (or Mac) which you will inevitably have to fairly soon anyway.

you dont have to do but we will do as we are used to computers

all we need is your specs on the machine to state whats best for you

Stick with it Parm. I have been around computers since commodore 64s etc but unless you stay using things it's like many things as it's updated you loose track.
Graphics cards are my achilles heel as I must have 20 here most out of old machines........ I finally was forced to build a new PC with old gear as Microsoft pulled win 7 support and getting everything reinstalled and drivers for all printers etc etc etc has been much more work as I did not keep up.
What I did find is my speeds seem to be affected by drive issues that were not obvious until I took the drives out.
Thankfully it looks like mobo side so I will be happy to see the back of it..........

Parm ...I think (IMHO) your best bet is to convert your 4K footage to 1080P HD ...I assure you, no one will notice the difference, and you can use a 'more normal' editing package to edit it. I actually film in HD now on my 4K camera as it still looks fab even on my 55" screen and is much easier to handle.

can you suggest a suitable normal bit of software please

I can't really ... we (the forum) would need to know your PC's specs .....ram, graphics card,cpu, ...I think the progs others have listed should be OK with HD ......as I say I have used Premiere for 25 years so can't really comment on the others mentioned, sorry.

@Parm - me and a few people have suggested davinci resolve: have you had a look at that?

These aren't your specs. There minimum requirements.

Google cpuid and gpuid (I linked them earlier.) And screenshot the main pages. This will give us all your system info. Inc what i7 chip. Ram size and speed. Gpu. Main board.

Skot, nope I haven’t, I gave up last night.

It’s on the mission plan tonight.

Bit of an updated, current footage is HD and not 4K as I had assumed, does this change things?
