I bought a reconditioned welder from Ebay a few years back and have used it on and off for a while, but not really done much serious welding with it. I started building a barbeque from an old oil can and apart from the usual wire feeding problems was going well.
To cut a long story short, it stopped working, so i whipped the case off to have a look.
I have attached some pictures, but the best description i can come up with is that it appears to have melted the green component in the centre of the board. Now I did do A-Level Electronics, so should be able to identify it and or fix the board, but i can't for the life of me work out what it is!!
Any clues from some enlightened people, and also is it likely to have fried anything else in the process, the main relay in the corner appears to have some carbon deposits, but i will take off the case and clean it and would imagine i can get that working again or replace it with a similar spec one.
I am also intending to complete the wire feed mechanism bracing bit and possibly look at a seperate supply for the wire speed whilst i'm at it.
I suppose my main questions are : Is it worth repairing, how much would a new board be to drop in, is it worth improving it using the resources on this site, or shall i cut my losses, scrap it for the parts and buy a more decent unit?
Cheers for any responses.
