Gumtree bargain. Only a little one. But sits nicely on my benchha ha lead paint! a score thats cheap
If the fly press is cheap and in good working order consider buying it. With the renewed interest in Blacksmithing, the large fly presses are in great demand, and like the Swinden's Vices, are steadily going up and up in price.
I purchased a #6 flypress with its original cast iron stand at a good price. Its a heavy booger. The seller was honest and said that the punch in the ram was stuck, so this is something you might want to check for before buying. Here are photos of my six ton rated press in our Transporter to give you an idea of how large it is. Being lazy, so far I've only refinished the swing arm and weights, but removing the stuck punch in the ram is still an issue I haven't got around to.
EDIT: 1.) Google " The Fly Press Page - Ron Reil " for lots of information about fly presses and tooling.
2.) Google " usedflypress.com " for typical commercial prices of the various sizes of used fly presses.

i agree.. i bought my fly press 5 years ago..have not used it in anger since...just lovingly played with it every now and then and added a smidge of special grease from the lister grease pot i keep just for itMy philosophy is, the time to buy a bargain is when you don't need it, because when you do a) it'll not be available and/or b) it'll not be a bargain.![]()
