Tempted with another myself, a bigger one.

Can be used for putting “kinks” in flat bar, etc while smithing. Can think of a few other uses too, so may take the plunge if a cheap one comes up.

No/yes depends. Fly presses are good for batch work, not easy to apply constant pressure. You end up bumping stuff out. A press is easier to use in those situations

If you already have a 20 ton press and you don't do a lot of repetitive work, then the space could be useful for something else, as it will need to be raised up on something very stout somehow and fixed property, IMHO.

20t press is better for mechanical work and the like

Flypress are the master when it comes to working material

fly presses are useful for metal forming and broaching, where the press is moving up and down a lot, and gauging pressure by "feel" is more important.

If you just use it to push out shafts and bearings etc, I'd say your 20t hydraulic press is more useful.

Everyone needs a fly press. Get any tooling you can to go with it. We dragged one out of a scrappers that needed two larger gentlemen. some scaffold poles, a garage door way and a lot of heat to free off, and half an hour later it was running smooth as a new one. They are quite resilient.... At least its got both balls and the arm, that saves some faffing about.

Yep, I make as I need them. Not got the lathe sorted yet so havent got round to anything round for it, but it will be good practice when I do.

I tend to follow that philosophy with tools I might need if I see them going cheap. Generally I find in a little while “I’ve got just the tool for that” when I’m trying to do something.

With flypresses...the bigger the better. They are a right tosser to move..
