Tarpen Generator

Well I hadn't planned to buy one, but couldn't turn it down for £40

A Tarpen type 40 110VDC generator probably dating to the 1940's

Filled the float bowl with some 2 stroke mix, a few pulls and away it went

It has now been added to the restoration queue

They were often "Given" to industry in WW2 to increase production.
Hard working and long lasting units.

They had a range of tools such as hedge trimmers and some kit will run on AC or DC.

Thanks both I saw the ad, but assumed the generator and tools were all 110V AC as modern site tools. Never knew 110 V DC pre-dated that.

I wonder how many Hondas will be around in 80 years?

probably plenty if they didn't get used its like people saying they don't make cars like that nowadays that last that long no there all layed up and if they had done 60 thousand miles the engines would need a total rebuild along with the bodywork

I acquired a Tarpen mower many years ago, it was a wonderful thing, big four stroke motor, the wheels were powered and when the cutting got real heavy the governor would open up and it was unstoppable, it had big disc with triangle blades bolted on, never trusted those things!

It also had a 110v generator fitted that powered the small but most dangerous looking chain blade hedge trimmer known to man!

I still have that evil hedge cutter thing lurking about somewhere, I'll see if it can be find it and post a pic if it's not completely rusted away..
