My 08 Transit, 180,000 miles, has lived on the west coast of Scotland all it's life and it's in surprisingly good nick underneath. From memory, so far it's had the driver and passenger footwells, handbrake mount, and this year, an engine mount. It gets waxoiled very couple of years which I think helps. It also had a complete respray some years back, there were enough rust spots to make it worth doing.
Other than that, it's just had consumables.
It'll get replaced with whatever is around when it happens.

2009 peugeot expert long wheel base van. 1.6hdi engine. been good as gold. I bought in 2013, with 90000km's, now at 165000. Had a new clutch when I bought it as there was a squeal from the clutch release bearing, so I negociated that out when I bought it, they changed the whole clutch before the sale. Economy is pretty good for a van. Only costs have been consumables, tyres, pads oils etc. The only non consumable cost was a recent EGR, which stung a bit, but overall can't really complain. Drives like a car not a van, which is handy, as everyone and their dog borrows it.. The only thing is the bodywork, I bought it in Paris, so has the usual city owner dings and dents everywhere. especially on the blind side, being the long wheelbase version it's suffered a wee bit.
There is about a 6 month period last year where Continental truly f****d up injectors, so you need to get the build date and serial numbers, and run them through the computer.
Injectors seizing in cylinder heads is nothing new. At least Ford have brought out an official process with a decent tool, unlike Renault/Vauxhall/VW who like to pretend it's a non issue, or Merc who'll not even attempt it.
However a lot of the issues come down to the person doing the job.

I'm hearing horrible things about the new transits... garage next door has a 16 reg in right now, 180k miles, it had an engine fitted by Ford under warranty (t 60k ish miles) and it's having another engine swap now at 180k
timing chain is a whet chain in oil, this ones snapped, owner 'thinks' it was the same last time
Ford main dealer did a horrible job with the last engine swap, loads of broken clips, wires/hoses etc. cable tied wherever they'd go / not the right rout
I like sprinters but they're a total pain when they go wrong and parts are expensive
loved my old iveco daily (2001), it was rock solid but maybe I was just lucky, no idea what they newer ones are like
I think pretty much all vans are pretty crap right now, especially if you work them hard, a lot of people I talk to say their van is rock solid but then they don;t carry much eight / go very far
I think the biggest improvement I made to my vans (1 sprinter, then transits) was limiting them to 70mph.... stops the drivers revving the tits off them, which kills them double quick.... used to kill at least an engine a year here... now I've limited them it's been about 4 years and no engine swaps! (got rid of a bad driver too)

Oops!! Sorry to hear that, but sums up the most recent batch of Fords
Personally, compared to the other manufacturers, I think that Fords have lost the plot and are falling behind

My beloved T4 is gently rusting away at the bottom of the garden. Waiting for me to get out there and weld up the entire rear end. Unfortunately I now know why an older vehicle is referred to as "a shed".
That is in fact what it has become. I'll need another shed before I can empty out the back of the van!
The Transporter (T4) is the only decent size van that will fit down the alley to my garages.

I recently drove a LWB high roof Sprinter to Portugal - lovely to drive but very basic inside. Almost no toys at all on a £47k van! Very bad in crosswinds but that is because it is huge!
My favourite van is the one I borrow off my mate. An old Fiat Ducato with a transit engine. Still going strong after 200,000 miles and years of abuse.

That's French wiring for you. Give it another 10 or 20k, and the engine will probably randomly blow up with wiring being a minor issue.

My van or the last 4 years has been a Ford Courier 1.6 diesel 79K on the clock.
It's been a good van with no real trouble, comfortable, quick enough but has a noisy rough as old boots Peugeot engine in it! Everything rattles in the cabin, it's an absolute nightmare I'm surprised I haven't crashed it looking for the rattles! It weaves all over the road at speed, I thought it had flat tyres the day I got it from new but I checked them and they were ok
It's had company van treatment and only the clutch has gone......
Lots of London driving though.
Rad got punctured with stones on the M25, seems to eat brake pads and discs, averages 48mpg, I set the trip and leave it so it's a true reading.
It's currently sat on my drive smashed to bits after a bell end in a Corsa tried overtaking me as I turned right into a driveway
Suspension, steering are both mangled along with the bodywork! It still got me home though, I might not see it again once its trailered off
