Are they making a toolmakers clamp, I think that was one of the things we made at school.

Indeed! Probably a much simpler version as we'll be using machine screws instead of doing any turning or knurling; this class is a nightmare as it is without throwing that into the equation! They'll get onto the lathes next project for some simple stuff.

Just reminded me. Last time I checked was quite far in advance gonna check when they run them as Glenrothes isn't too far but isn't close either so needs to be a suitable day really.

Hmm... that's odd. I was toying with doing the MIG welding course after doing the TIG last year, just something to do besides improving my own MIG welding, and I'm sure when I looked a week or so ago that one started at Adam Smith (Glenrothes) soon.... will see if I can find it.

Are those things in the corners acting as squares or do they have another purpose too?

Yes they’re 90* squares to clamp on while welding. These ones are 300mm x 300mm laser cut from 4mm steel.
I bought them on eBay a while ago and they’ve been really handy for quickly setting up a joint.

Go bigger, 5-12-13.
Getting that big will give more welding fun.

I bought my pair last February because I was welding up a big 90mm box frame and I’ve used them for loads of other jobs since then. Definitely a basic bit of kit that soon earned the cash back.



I’m not on commission by the way I just really like them.

With the exception of a bit of red paint my frame is done. I had to buy one length of the 100x50mm C channel but the rest of the steel’s reclaimed so its cost me less than a night out so far.
Still got a big thick steel top to buy though.

+1 I was only finding sellers selling the DXF files, which I don't have the capability to produce from atm. Seem to be a fair deal for that price.

I use big ply triangles with holes for clamps for timberwork.
Works a treat
Don't do much with metal however gonna have to make a roof rack soon.

I haven’t figured out what it weighs yet but it was actually easier to roll over than I was expecting. It’s probably a good 200kg though so maybe not the best thing to be moving by myself at 7 in the evening.

It is indeed, unfortunately I got into doing work for other people and playing with bikes so I haven’t done any meaningful work on it in 2 years.

Is that a workbench?

Sort of a work/welding bench and jig table if I can find someone to bast out a 100mm grid of 16mm holes in the top.
