Whats best for beginer?

Hi I can Mig and Arc weld very compently. Now I want to take up Tig welding, I want to do a bit of alloy welding. I know that you need an AC/DC set to acheive this, I'm looking for somthing thats up for the job for a few hundred. Also could do with it being 240V, Regards Steve.

Wishful thinking I'm afraid Steve . That sort of money won't even buy you a Chinese inverter, let alone anything better.
The only thing you might get for that sort of money is a large old transfomer machine, pretty much bombproof but weigh in at around 200kg and need a huge leccy supply.
I picked up an old Miller Dialarc on Ebay for next to nothing, it simply hadn't been advertised very well so not many people spotted it.

Smurphy: as Woz says you have no chance for a few hundred, belive me i have been looking for a year for a bargain AC/DC thats a quality make too. nigh on impossible.

Cheers guys maybe start with a standard tig and pre-heat alloy would that work better? As I haven't got loads off money just yet

No, but still cheap considering the quality/price against any ac/dc inverter.....just not as cheap as one we know about, but that's life.....
