Prob looking at a price range of 1500euro
Bearing in mind your location I would find a good machinery dealer in your area, find out what they stock or can order in & go from there. No point in UK based guys recommending something you can't buy in Ireland. If it goes faulty it will be expensive to send it back for repair!

I have one and love it will cut 20 and 25mm handy if you have decent air supply

I have a TecArc Opticut 65 on the CNC table and it does well, it will pierce to 16mm and will cut 25 no probs with an edge start.
The Opticut 45 mentioned above should do what you want and fall within your price range.
Regarding the Hypertherm 45, think that will be over £2k so outwith your price.

I was looking at a thermal dynamics plasma. Any one know what there like. I can't justify 2k I don't think

Paid 1700 plus vat for my 45xp
Thought I was mad at the start but not now
Ept Carlow have the thermal dynamics seem to shift a lot of them. Cut master 60i only comes in three phase
They have a new 40i out now on single phase
They have a few around the 12-1300 mark can’t think of the model numbers
Give me a shout if you want a look at the hypertherm

More might be put out to dry for this but if that was me I'd buy a oxygen propane cutting set cut mild steel from 6 mm to 75+ mm

That is ok if all you will be cutting is steel. Beauty of plasma is it will cut stainless, alu, brass....... basically anything that is conductive.

I would like to have both
Plasma is a "safer" process than oxy-fuel
Portable
Cut and gouge everything
Limited in portability because requires electric power and compressed air
Cheap because once you have the machine ,it doesn't require to much money to work
Electrical shock azard
Oxy-fuel is dangerous because it requires compressed gas
Acetylene can explode without any reason even alone
Acetylene is an expensive gas
Propane is safer than acetylene and it has more heating power than acetylene but lower temperature so it isn't the best choice for welding
Other gases can be used
Oxygen is dangerous , you should avoid the oxygen to being in contact with fuel sources and petroleum derivates like teflon tape etc
Oxygen can slice through concrete .....
Expensive gear ,torch ,welding an cutting attachments,tips ,regulators , flashback arrestors,check valves ,hoses
A bottle cart,fuel bottle, oxygen bottle
It can cut thick plates and whatever is made out o steel
It's portable you can use it everywhere without depending on electrical power
Another bad thing about is the infect zone
You can it to weld ,cut ,heat,bend
Every one that works with metal needs both

I have both, however rarely use the oxy fuel. The oxy fuel rig is acetylene and mainly used for silver soldering. The plasma I use for pretty much everything else. Cutting machine / hand, gouging though not very often. It is very lovely to just press the trigger and away you go with cutting.
Now plasma machines I have a few. Bought a cheapish (not cheap then) single phase machine for site work and small stuff. Had it for years then one time needed it and it wouldn't work
, It was some Italian thing. Had a Esseti single phase plasma in the box brand new ( stock item ) had to get it out for work. Only used it twice and it works ok, but not on thicker stuff. Have also some Hungarian HF start three phase machines. Started with a 50/80amp. These things are heavy, transformer type about 250kg, Had it for years. Consumables dont last that long and the cut was OK. It didn't cut like I wanted so I got it's bigger brother (60/90/120/150 amp) machine, now this weighed about 350kg. Still cut quality was about the same as it's smaller brother, but it could cut thicker stuff
. Also had it for years, it did far more kilometers in the back of the service truck than it ever did cutting mm of metal

When I got my plasma setup I needed to get a plasma that was not HF start and looked for some time. What sealed the deal was the manufacturer of the plasma electronics favoured the Hypetherm. You could vary the cut current through the software mid motion, forum reports were good, more than 50% of members highly recommended them, so I took the gamble. I looked at the 105 (as that was the biggest available ) at that time, however by the time I was ready there was a PM125. Does it work does it cut well do consumables last a long time does it cost a lot

Americans tends to exaggerate their capabilities and what their equipment will do, however Hypetherm tend to be conservative in their estimates. If they say it will cut and it is in their book, it will definetly cut it. Again I make a living from my equipment so it is vital for me and becoming more so, so the investment is well worth it. Are there other machines out there that are good, well yes. I cut a bit of 10mm steel (1200mm by 2400mm ) sheet, about 250 pierces and 55m of linear cut per sheet, and can do three sheets in one session (what a mess and the fumes / smoke). The plasma's cooling fan just cycles on and off to cool itself down. This machine has a 100% duty cycle at 125amps, so will never stop on me whilst cutting. I have cut 20mm alli plate at 125amps, with a ambient temp of 30 degrees and the fan then didn't stop.
What you get is up to you and as such should be suitable for your needs. If you are just playing around, then it may not matter, however if you are looking to get serious then what you get will either work with you or against you. This I have learnt over time at my significant expense
