at least it will sting the offenders who cause deaths and accidents to other motorists . I used to do it and can honestly say I was a liability to myself and others not paying attention I no longer do it now people can wait if they want me collect the points and they will soon learn not just loose a few quid that is a joke those that get caught don't normaly wear seatbelts neither

It's got faf all to do with money.
Texting and driving is bloody dangerous and stupid and a danger to others as well as yourselves.
In this shallow world we live in money seems to matter most so that's where they target.
Personally I'd rather see the ban stick waved around. Driving is a privalige not a right.

Only last week followed a freelander weaving up the road at 40 to 70mph thought he was drunk so called the police via my radio that’s hands free. They got him within minutes and I was behind to see him pulled over

He had a tablet not his phone but a tablet looked like he was watching an adult movie

I'm not pure as the driven either but its just not worth it, don't mean the fines either, life changing, behind a kid on a pretty deserted road high up in Belgium nearly went off the road to 100's feet drop, she just managed to snatch it back in time, mate with me ex Belgium cop said he could see she was just looking down texting whatever, drop was pretty sheer reckon she would have been dead.

I do still text via hands free button on the wheel, barking messages to poor Ciri who takes a lot of verbal abuse, well if you can't swear at a machine whats left

Have to agree. I see it regularly on my commute. They are easy to spot as you filter approach because you can see in their door mirrors that their head is down. Come alongside and sure enough, there it is. I have had words with one or two, but they really don't see what the problem is. One had been weaving left to right which I assumed was deliberately trying to block me from overtaking. When I spoke to him, he said that he hadn't noticed me. Well surprise surprise!

I have even seen HGV drivers doing it. One, a vehicle in Bence of Cheltenham livery appeared to be broken down as he hadn't moved for quite some time. I hopped my way up to the head of the queue and of course he was playing with a 'phone. I overtook and caught up with the traffic in the distance only to see him catch up still head down. I kept a careful eye in my mirrors because I was convinced he wouldn't stop.

Emails to his depot got no response so I assume that they consider it acceptable.

Caught me out on a roundabout tonight.
Despite him having his rh indicator on I still saw him as turning left due to it.
Nearly pulled out in front of it.
How can they be legal

Yes some are very bright and blind oncoming traffic, others not so bad. But why did we have to follow other countries with this?
The worst ones are the ones that hide the front indicators so they can't be seen!

I walked to the shop to get a paper this morning and saw three drivers using their phones, why not just have a police presence in plain clothes occasionally doing the same thing?
