I have been asked about servicing outboard engines a few times now in time for spring, yes planning ahead. Only pain is on my own its not an easy task to lift an outboard off a boat whilst still in the water to work on it.
They weigh on average max around 50kg as mainly they are small cruiser outboards of 6hp-15hp.
Now only way i can think of is modify an engine hoist.
Being
fit larger pneumatic wheels/tyres easy if terrain is not like a garage floor. ( no worries though i wont be doing it rough ground )
And mainly extend the jib to reach 1.2m / 4 foot over the water to reach the engine, so therefore also past the end of the front legs.
I want to work in a way also to wind the jib in close once lifted from the transom, something to think on later. small electric winch maybe by remote to do this aswell as lift the engine while,i am lifting it off the transom so not to damage the boat.
Some yards/marinas will remove the engine but at a cost and some places i will go to cant do it so this is a way i can do it for the customer myself.
Thoughts please
All Best
