More Mercedes 300D help

The engine has a connection near the rear of the block which is just linked to a connection below the thermostat housing, its linked with a Garden hose!
So should I bother replacing this or just blank the two off?
I think they are just feeds to the heater? But Bob has no heater

looks to me a wise investement would be a whole new set of hose's.......n fix the heater core.......

Its installed in a 1964 Series 2A Land rover, its a very rough install, just need it up and running, I have a full set of silicon hoses but its pointless joining these two together if we don't need them, its cheaper to fit a Chinese diesel heater under the seat than try to find a Land Rover one as its missing.

It would be worth checking there is a bypass elsewhere on the system before blanking off the heater hose.

Its just an engine nothing else out of the car but I see your point when the thermostat is closed it might dead head the pump?
The only other thing connected to it is the rad
