how best to fix my vice

So today I broke my vice. The bolt that hols the lead screw nut down stripped the threads out, this is cast. Any way how tight is this nut suppose to be? Pics to follow.

Just thinking on the best way to fix this.

I should have taken one of the long nut too

Can you not retap it for the next size up.

maybe mate how tight is the nut suppose to be is it suppose to be dead tight so it does not move?
if so I will drill through the lot work bench to and fit a longer nut and bolt job done no more threads to strip

All the force of the vice will be on it as the screw tightens? Or is it bolted from the rear and held by the vice body?

it is bolted nearer the front 2 bolts one either side

Tbat style of nut, I always leave the fixing bolt slightly slack. Tighten it down fully, & you tend to find the leadscrew tight in its nut, more oft than not.

Great thanks so I could drill all the way through the bench and fit a longer bolt with a nylock nut to stop it coming loose rather than repairing the stripped threads
